ASUS ZenScreen Best Selling Portable Monitor and ROG STRIX XG17

ASUS has recently announced that the ASUS ZenScreen is the best selling portable monitor series for 2019. According from a report by IHS Markit, a global information provider on markets and now part of Informa Tech. For the first 3 quarters in 2019; ASUS portable monitors have had a 64% share in global shipments. Another news is the ROG STRIX XG17 Portable Gaming Monitor.

Leading the way in Portable Monitors

To breakdown the report, total shipments of portable monitors grew by 46% for 2019. This proves the market’s (us) gaining interest for acquiring portable monitors. It’s estimated that for 2020, there will be a further 27% increase. As this particular market continues to appreciate, ASUS will strive to continue leading for the coming years. According to ASUS, the top regions where these monitors are selling well are: US, Europe, Middle East and Africa. ASUS also mentioned that it has held the top sales position for three years straight. Now let’s take a quick look on ASUS’s history with portable monitors.

How it all started

ASUS began its portable monitor series in 2013, with their first unit called the MB168B. By 2016, the MB168C+ was released. It’s connected to a laptop via a USB Type C, one of the earliest devices to use the cable at the time, sharing data and power in one cable. In 2017, the first ZenScreen series was launched. The ZenScreen MB16AC was the world’s first slimmest and lightest 15.6-inch FHD (1080p) portable monitor. While it has a USB Type-C support, it also has USB Type-A making it compatible with just about any laptop. While these models rely on power from the laptop, the 2018 ASUS ZenScreen Go MB16AP gets its own battery supply. Just last year, the ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT not only has an internal battery, has touch capability as well.

Other than the specified features above, all of the ZenScreen monitors have 15.6” screen sizes and come with IPS panels (except for the first model). By using a portable monitor, users can further maximize more screen space while on the go. Others, who own smaller, more compact laptops or mobile devices will appreciate having a thin and less bulky 15.6” screen to augment work. And for photographers on the field, they can use the screen for editing work away from the studio, thanks to its IPS panel technology by giving out rich colors and wide viewing angles. And for 2020, ASUS has announced a new product for its Portable Monitors line-up.

New Portable Monitors for Gaming

Portable gaming is still gaining popularity more than ever. Gamers are now starting to look for better performing portable monitors for playing video games on consoles or augment their current gaming laptop’s screen. ASUS announces of the STRIX XG17 portable gaming display.

The STRIX XG17 boasts of a 17.3-inch IPS FHD display with a incredibly fast 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time. This makes the XG17 the fastest portable monitor in the world to date. Rounding out the features, it has a 7800mAh battery that provides roughly 3.5 hours of full 240Hz game play on a single charge. If 3.5 hours isn’t enough, it has a Quick Charge 3.0 feature that will enable full charge within 2 hours. It comes with front facing 2w speakers to provide audio. To cater different devices, it has ports for USB Type-C (via DisplayPort) and micro HDMI, plus an 3.5mm jack for listening with ear/headphones. Its thickness is around 10mm and weighs about 1kg. The XG17 comes complete with a power adapter, micro HDMI to HDMI cable, DisplayPort to USB Type-C, USB Type-C to Type A adapter, and its smart cover.

An add-on accessory, the ROG Tripod, will allow further flexibility with setting the XG17 to our laptop. This allows us to setup the portable monitor above our laptop’s screen to provide an extended vertical view of our screen, or ergonomically setting the screen to our own needs.

One more thing, ZenScreen Experience Event

To celebrate the achievement of ASUS portable monitors, ASUS is holding an event on social media. This event runs from March 16, 2020 to April 5, 2020. ASUS enjoins ZenScreen users to talk about your experience on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the #TeamZenScreen hashtag. Once that hashtag is included in your post, you will be qualified to enter a raffle where winners get the opportunity to win one of three ASUS ZenBeam S2 portable projectors.

Non ZenScreen owners do not have to fret. We too can join a different contest, ASUS will be raffling three ZenScreen MB16ACE portable monitors. Simply post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter how we would use a ZenScreen if we ever have one and include the hashtag #TeamZenScreen.
