Those who know me well are aware that I’ve been advocating cashless payments for the past few years. I’m a Smart Money user (a hard-core one) since 2010 and I can survive anywhere with it and my mobile phone. Recently, there’s a new milestone achieved by PayMaya QR, Voyager Innovations’ successful virtual debit card product.
PayMaya QR lets customers scan the bar codes of a retail store using the PayMaya app to make payments easy and simple. They made a test run with convenience store giant Mini Stop and it was a success. Customers won’t have to count their cash or coins from their bags, wallets or pockets anymore when they pay for their items. Merchants, on the other hand, no longer have to invest in point-of-sale systems in order to accept digital payments from their customers. This should encourage other merchants who are afraid to go through the cashless payments bandwagon.

With this initiative, Filipinos will not only have a delightful and convenient way to pay via QR, but it will also help place the Philippines ahead of the curve in growing a cashless, digital economy,” said Paolo Azzola, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director at PayMaya Philippines.

This will definitely help bring a quicker, more secure, and hassle-free payments experience to customers within our stores,” added Thelma Roxas-Jacob, General Manager at Ministop.
Through its QR-based payments – the first-of-its-kind implementation in the country for QR code payments – PayMaya is paving the way for mainstream adoption of digital payments for all Filipinos nationwide.
The technology is initially available in Ministop Cyberscape Alpha and Ministop Cyberscape Beta, but will be rolled out to more sites and stores in the coming months.
Ministop is the latest retail merchant to adopt PayMaya’s QR-based payment technology, which recently saw an accelerated rollout across the country in Smart Stores, in communities starting with canteens in partner schools like STI and commercial establishments in cashless cities such as Muntinlupa and Malabon, and in popular merchants within Smart Spots already enabled by WiFi connectivity in key cities such as Baguio, Cebu, and Davao.
