Smart has a lot of “firsts” under its belt, and the announcement made today is not just another first for the Philippines but also a first in the world! The new service called “Pay With Mobile” enables users of Apple devices to purchase music and video from iTunes and apps from the App Store without the use of a credit card. We all know that Filipinos are unable to make purchases on the internet, either it’s because they don’t have a credit card or they’re just simply scared of doing any transactions online. As long as you’re a Smart Postpaid or Prepaid subscriber, the amount they’re paying for will either be charged on top of their Postpaid accounts or deducted from their Prepaid credits.
The service will begin rolling out on February 16 and we can expect that this will be in full blast by February 18.
“Smart understands that not everyone owns a credit card, but that shouldn’t stop people from realizing the full potential of their mobile devices. This is why we have worked hard to bring this groundbreaking service to Filipino users, which we believe will further revolutionize the way they enjoy their favorite lifestyle apps and content on their devices,” said Charles Lim, EVP and Wireless Consumer Division Head at Smart. “This is yet another way that Smart is making mobile Internet fun, fast, and worry-free for all of our subscribers.”
To get started, Smart Postpaid and Prepaid subscribers will need to register only once by sending REG to 4949. They will receive their Pay-With-Mobile number and other important details related to the account. Once it’s ready, users can go to their Apple ID Account Settings page on iTunes or the App Store, select MasterCard as their payment option, and enter the number and other details on the form.
Once done, they can pay for apps, music, videos, and games on their iPhones, iPads and MacBooks as well as make in-app purchases. Subscribers will receive an SMS notification for every successful transaction.
