realme C25s Review: Entry-Level Gaming Upgraded

It’s been a while since I have last reviewed an entry-level smartphone from realme. The last C-series phone I reviewed was the realme C15 announced August of last year. After almost a year, they finally sent me an entry-level phone: a realme C25s review unit. It is actually the “second edition” of the realme C25 announced last summer so we can expect some of its features were already improved. Is the realme C25s worth buying as an entry-level phone? Let’s find out!

realme C25s Review

We are back to the familiar yellow box of realme. Indicated on the front is model number with the letter “S.” If you intend to buy the C25s, make sure that it has that letter on the box.

THE LOOKS AND FEEL

realme C25s Review

The ID of the realme C25s is very similar to the C25. Upon seeing the phone, I realized that it is also similar to the C15, an entry-level phone we reviewed last year. Dimensions and weight are almost similar with each other. I will not be surprised if they use the same phone ID if they would release another entry-level phone later this year.

The SIM Card slot is located on the left side of the C25s. It can accommodate two Nano SIM cards and a MicroSD card. On the other side of the phone are the volume and power buttons.

A 3.5mm headphone jack, Type-C USB port and speaker grille are located at the bottom of the phone.

The back cover is made of polycarbonate and it has the same type of texture we’ve seen in previous phone models. There is a large realme logo at the back, but the “DARE TO LEAP” slogan is missing. I think they should have also included the slogan to make the design look new and in sync with the realme 8 series. The camera module is placed on the upper left side of the back cover while the fingerprint scanner is found underneath it.

Thanks to its textured back cover, grip on the C25s feels secured and would less likely slip out of your hands. Feels comfortable to hold too.

THE SOUND AND DISPLAY

realme C25s Review

Since the phone’s ID was based on previous models, screen of the realme C25s remains the same. It still has the 6.5″ size with HD+ resolution and 20:9 screen-to-body ratio. Even the teardrop notch where the 8 Megapixel selfie camera remains unchanged. While there are no changes in this department, the screen size is beneficial for users who need a bigger display for watching videos. Sound quality is adequate but you can opt to use your favorite wired headphones or earphones as the C25s has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

THE PERFORMANCE

realme C25s Review

Now this is where we see something different with the realme C25s. Its processor is bumped up from the C25’s MediaTek 2.0 GHz Helio G70 processor to a slightly more powerful 2.0 GHz Helio G85. We did not review the C25 but we have reviewed the realme C3 last year which also used the Helio G70 chipset. Here are the benchmark test results of the C25s:

The benchmark scores of the C25s are higher than the C3. Keep in mind though that this new C-series phone has a bigger storage configuration over last year’s entry-level king. The C25s has two storage variants: 64GB and 128GB paired with 4GB of memory. Its operating system runs on the latest Android 11 with realme UI 2.0.

realme C25s Review

The Helio G70 is an ideal chipset for budding mobile gamers. Playing Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and League of Legends Wildrift on high settings didn’t cause any hiccups on the C25s. However, on Genshin Impact, we wouldn’t recommended playing it on highest settings. The game wasn’t that smooth and sometimes experienced lags. We strongly suggest playing this game on medium. If you are not into gaming, you’ll be happy to know that the realme C25s is very capable to handle any other task.

THE CAMERAS

realme C25s Review

The realme C25s retained its cameras from the C25 which consists of a 48 Megapixel triple-camera system. I am disappointed that they did not include a ultra-wide lens which the C15 had last year. I reckon their reason for this is because they are marketing this as an entry-level gaming phone rather than a camera phone. Despite the lack of an ultra-wide angle, the C25s can take decent pictures. It even has a night mode function to help make photos brighter in low-level lighting conditions. Never had selfie issues with a realme phone, and the same can be said with their 8 Megapixel front camera which captures my natural skin tone color accurately.

THE BATTERY LIFE

realme C25s Review

The realme C25s is packed with a large 6,000 mAh battery that can last up to two days with normal usage. Our PCMark battery test results reveal it can reach almost 24 hours! The phone comes with an 18W fast charger just in case you need to add some extra juice to the C25s.

DR’S CONCLUSION

realme C25s Review

The realme C25s is a good reliable phone for everyday usage with really long battery life. With its specs, I think the C25s is targeting mobile gamers who need a gaming phone for under P10,000. Whether you are into mobile gaming, online learning, or simply need a daily driver, then you can’t go wrong choosing the realme C25s.
