Rumored Android Silver Project Put On Hold

Android Silver has long been running in rumor mills, but recent reports have disclosed that this may not be the year for it.

Android Silver has alledgedly been THE project of Google. According to The Verge and Android Police, the project would do away with third-party bloatware for a pure Android experience similar to the Nexus line. Some have even gone as far as to theorize that it would be the death of Nexus – a speculation debunked by Google in an interview by ReadWrite.

Moreover, Silver was supposed to set a standard of consistency among its units support-wise and sales-wise, even with the participation of different hardware moguls such as LG and Motorola. It was to be one, solid brand; from product planning to marketing and advertising, Google would be above and over how the public would experience Silver.

It seems, though, that the project was put on hold.

Some speculate that one of the reasons for the setback was the recent departure of Google’s Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora, who helped forge partnerships with carriers and device manufactures for Silver. Others believe that Silver was not as well received both internally and externally as Google would have hoped.

Google hasn’t commented about the rumors as it seems a hundred percent focused on the recently launched Android One, so for the time being, it may be better to put happy thoughts of Silver on the back burner.
