Those beloved mobile cassette players may have long been gone but the Walkman brand is very much alive — in fact, Sony has just unveiled the Walkman ZX2 in CES 2015.
The ZX2 may look like a phone, but it isn’t. It’s a portable “hi-res digital music player” through and through, and it looks quite fetching in its black matte casing. It has 128GB of storage, and boasts of up to 60 hours of uninterrupted MP3 music and 33 hours of hi-res playback. It even has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming.
However, it does have its shortcomings. There’s that issue about it running on the dated Android 4.2 Jellybean, but when you think that it isn’t really the right device for playing mobile games, it’s something you’ll forgive. Another is that it supposedly doesn’t come with earphones. Lastly, it’s said to cost a whopping $1,119.99 (approximately Php50,411) upon release in the coming months.
Sony’s Walkman ZX2 is definitely not for the casual listener, but for the upscale audiophile who’s more than willing to spend for a good music experience. With such a hefty price tag on something that can technically do only one thing, do you think it’ll even see the light of day locally?
