Sony Philippines launched today the Sony Xperia XZ Premium along with the other new smartphones in the Xperia lineup. I’ll touch on each of them in the coming days, but let me focus on the XZ Premium first.
The Xperia XZ Premium’s shiny exterior will catch anyone’s attention, as it did to me today during the launch. According to Ms.Zhorai Lipayon, Sony Mobile’s Product Marketing Program Manager, the phone is made of a material called Alkaleido. Upon checking the Sony Blog, it is an entirely new form of aluminum and the Xperia XZ was actually the first smartphone they’ve used the material. It gives a shiny look and it actually looks from any angle. On top of that body is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back surfaces. Just like its predecessors, the Xperia XZ Premium is rated IP65/68 water-resistant and dust-proof.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 is the Xperia XZ Premium’s processor of choice and it is the first smartphone to have that processor in the Philippines (the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Philippine variants are on Exynos.) John Nieves of Unbox.ph tested it with Antutu Benchmark and it garnered a very high score, around 150,000+.
The most interesting feature of the Xperia XZ Premium is its ability to take super slow motion videos. How slow? It’s 960 frames per second.
