Throwback Thursday: The iPhone 4s

We’ve heard of the new iPhones yesterday and my interest to get either an iPhone 5s or even a 5c is not too high as of the moment. Anyway, that’s for another blog post, but since today is #ThrowbackThursday and I’m still fresh from the new Apple announcement, my post today is about my first iPhone – the iPhone 4s.

On October 4, 2011, Tim Cook took the stage for the first time and introduced the successor of the iPhone 4. I became quite interested in it especially when they showed videos of Siri, the intelligent personal assistant found in the iPhone 4s. There were some complaints I’ve read on social media during that time as they were disappointed with the few updates on the newest iPhone. A day later, Apple Founder and CEO, Steve Jobs passed away.

I do not know if it’s true up to this day, but the 4s model stands for “4 Steve”. It was an emotional day for everyone, even for myself, and several of us thought we’ll get an iPhone 4s as a tribute to Steve.

A month later, Manny Pangilinan announced that Smart will also carry the iPhone. I was ecstatic! It’s about time that my favorite network will offer an iPhone. So I waited patiently for 1 more month and I got myself invited to Smart’s Christmas Party in Power Plant Mall. At the stroke of midnight, I finally got a brand new iPhone 4s as my early retention package.

Finish Line Smart

I haven’t been this giddy for sometime and the iPhone 4s made me have sleepless nights researching more things about it. The premium feel of an Apple product made me want to use the iPhone in its “naked” state, but because I am too scared to see its broken glass at the back I eventually decided to buy a Lifeproof case for protection.

I’ve adjusted to Apple’s iOS platform pretty quickly from Android Froyo. I moved all my contacts and calendar entries, setup my iCloud account, and synced everything with my MacBook Air. Smiling about what I was doing, I told myself “I have a MacBook Air, and now I have an Apple iPhone. I’m loving this!” The iPhone 4s was the only phone I wanted to carry and it was my main partner for my freelance work. I downloaded more apps and games that used to make me drool back in 2009 and 2010.

I loved my iPhone 4s’ camera and took photos of my daughter with it whenever I can. I got introduced to the world of Instagram (the rest of the Android world would be introduced to it a few months later) and took photos just for them to be uploaded.

Oh, and I had some conversations with Siri, like this:

I was in love with my iPhone until I won a Samsung Galaxy S3 . I placed it back in its box and revived it again a couple of months later when iOS6 was released.

Where is it now?

I got myself an iPhone 5 and as much as I wanted to keep my iPhone 4s, I decided to sell it to someone in an online marketplace.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
