Zoom Acquires Keybase

Zoom has acquired Keybase, security encryption startup, providing encryption expertise bringing Zoom’s future of end-to-end encryption closer. This incredible milestone is part of Zoom’s 90- Day Security Plan.

Several days ago, we’ve reported about the Zoom 5.0 which fixes and enhances security issues through IT and administrator updates. As a quick recap, the Zoom 5.0 now has AES 256-bit GCM encryption which is impressive on its own. However, it’s still not the end-to-end encryption we’ve seen possible with other messaging platforms like Telegram or videochat platforms like Apple’s FaceTime and Signal. Read more about Zoom 5.0 here.

As the leading platform for the professional landscape when actively social distancing, Zoom is progressing forward to address current and future security issues. Keybase is a trusted messaging and file- sharing platform which uses encryption keys in a publicly auditable manner. In other words, an expert on cryptographic engineering.

The Keybase team will function as part of Zoom security developers. They will work closely with Zoom in providing a cryptographic draft as part of their 90-Day security plan. Zoom aims to make the secure end-to-end encryption available for paying clients.
