The Unboxing

The vivo Y100 comes in a box with a prominent ‘Y’ on the front along with the model name. At the back, you will see its key features: 80W FlashCharge + 5000mAh Battery, 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED Display, Extended RAM and Large Storage, and Dual Stereo Speaker. Upon opening the box, you’ll find the product itself, a clear silicone case, SIM ejector pin, 80W charger, type-C USB cable, and some documents.

The Design

The vivo Y100, in the Breeze Green variant we have, features a flashy color-changing backplate design that shifts from light green to dark blue. It also boasts a Breeze texture that dazzles when sunlight hits it. Another available color variant for the vivo Y100 is Crystal Black. The rear camera sports a triple-camera setup with individual protrusions that can cause the phone to wobble when placed on a flat surface.

The frame measures 7.99mm and has a glossy finish that may attract fingerprints. It adopts a flat, boxy design with curved edges. In terms of durability, it holds an IP54 rating, indicating its resistance to water splashes and dust. The screen utilizes Fluorite AG technology for scratch and wear resistance.

Regarding its buttons and ports, the volume rocker and power button are located on the right side. At the bottom, you’ll find the SIM tray slot, microphone hole, USB-C port, and speaker grille. The SIM tray slot accommodates two nano SIM cards, or you can opt to place a MicroSD card in the second SIM card slot to expand your storage. The fingerprint sensor is positioned under the display. For its network, it is only a 4G phone, but it also has a 5G version that is not yet available here.

The Display and Speaker

The vivo Y100 features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, boasting a pixel density of 394 PPI. The refresh rate defaults to Smart Switch, automatically selecting the most appropriate screen refresh rate, but users can also manually opt for either 60Hz or 120Hz.

Although lacking HDR certification, the device supports HD streaming on platforms like Netflix, thanks to its Widevine L1 compatibility. For eye protection, it incorporates Eye Care Display technology, reducing harmful blue light to less than 6.5%.

As expected from an AMOLED display, users can enjoy vibrant colors and deep blacks for an immersive viewing experience.

Surprisingly, the Y100 also boasts dual stereo speakers, allowing users to enhance their audio experience with volume amplification of up to 300%. Additionally, it carries Hi-Res Audio certification, ensuring clear and loud audio output.

The Performance

The vivo Y100 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 processor clocked at 2.8GHz and has an Adreno 610 GPU. It is paired with 8GB LPDDR4X of RAM and 256GB of storage that is UFS 2.2. If the storage is not enough, you can add a MicroSD card up to 1TB of storage.

Here are the benchmark results we got from the vivo Y100.

When you boot up the device, you will be greeted by the Funtouch OS 14, which is based on Android 14. There is a ton of bloatware pre-installed, but you can easily uninstall it to free up your storage space.

Navigating the phone and switching between social media apps or messaging apps is smooth and snappy. You can also enjoy smooth gameplay when playing casual games or esports games; however, you need to lower down its graphics setting for high graphic intensive games like Genshin Impact to be able to have playable gameplay.

The thermal performance of the vivo Y100 is decent, with the phone temperature hovering around 35°C when we perform a 3D Mark Wild Life Stress Test, giving us a result of a 98% stability score.

The Camera

The vivo Y100 features a 50-megapixel rear camera, accompanied by a 2-megapixel bokeh lens and a flicker sensor. For selfies, it boasts an 8-megapixel front camera. When capturing images with the rear camera, it utilizes pixel binning to produce 12.48-megapixel photos.

The camera app of the vivo Y100 offers a multitude of modes to choose from, including Night, Portrait Photo, Video, 50 MP, Pano, Documents, Slo-mo, Time-Lapse, Pro, Dual View, and Live Photo. Additionally, there are filters and light effects available to enhance your pictures.

Images taken with the main camera tend to exhibit neutral colors and passable sharpness in well-lit environments. However, it excels in capturing portraits, delivering natural skin tones with good sharpness, whether in Photo or Portrait mode. In low-light conditions, the camera maintains neutral colors but may exhibit slightly lower sharpness and occasional graininess. Nonetheless, the resulting images are still suitable for sharing on social media platforms.

On the other hand, the front camera produces decent results with natural skin tones and slightly enhanced color vibrance and good sharpness under adequate lighting. However, there is a slight decrease in quality in low-light conditions, although it manages to brighten up selfies to a satisfactory degree.

The Battery

The vivo Y100’s battery department stands out with its 5000mAh capacity, offering excellent performance. In our PCMark battery test, conducted at a brightness level of 50%, the device lasted an impressive 15 hours and 30 minutes from 100%, showcasing its strong battery life.

If you find yourself needing to recharge during the day, the included 80W fast charger provides a convenient solution, topping up your smartphone in just over 30 minutes—an excellent feature to have. Moreover, the device includes features aimed at prolonging battery health, such as the Smart Charging Engine 2.0, which protects against issues like overnight charging and temperature extremes. The manufacturer claims that with these features, the battery health can be maintained for up to 4 years.

vivo Y100 Verdict

The vivo Y100 is an excellent smartphone for people who want long battery life, quick smartphone charging, a great partner for watching your favorite online content, can handle day-to-day tasks like browsing the internet, chatting with friends, and scrolling through your social media feed, have already large storage and can still be expanded thanks to the MicroSD card slot availability or a phone that you can still use after several years.

However, it falls short if you want a hardcore gaming smartphone that can run any game at any graphic setting or can take photos in any situation. Nevertheless, it is a decent smartphone option, especially for under Php 15,000.

The vivo Y100 is priced at Php 12,499 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Php 13,999 for the 8GB+256GB variant. You can purchase it now as it is available on Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok Shop. You can also visit vivo website to see its product page.
