First Look: Gionee Elife S5.5 – Unboxing, Specs, First Impressions

I gotta say this – the review units being received here in my home office keeps on getting better and better!

I recently reviewed the Gionee Pioneer P4 smartphone which is my first taste in checking out on what Gionee has to offer in the world of Android. The unit I received today, however, is something I did not expect from the international smartphone brand. They’re touting it as the “World’s Slimmest Smartphone”, and if that is true, then I am honored to be one of the first here in the Philippines to review the Gionee Elife S5.5.

THE UNBOXING

This ain’t going to be a boring unboxing like I usually do 🙂 We have here the Elife S5.5, USB Cable, USB Charging Head, a pair of in-ear headphones, USB OTG (On-the-go) cable, Slim Flip Cover case, a couple of screen protectors, SIM Card Remover Pin and the manual.

The earphones included in the package is a flat cable type which should easily avoid any tangles.

For the hardcore gadgeteer, the USB OTG dongle is a must-have to easily access files from a USB flash drive or use with any USB peripherals.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Over the years, I have held different phones that claim to be the slimmest in the world, but after holding the Elife S5.5 for the first time, I don’t think I have held anything slimmer than this! I am still getting used to holding this crazy-thin phone and I have to be careful at the same time. The back is made of glass, Gorilla Glass 3 I heard, which makes it slippery to hold and I don’t think anyone would like to see this beauty of a phone drop by accident. This is where the Flip case comes in and I highly recommend using it from Day 1.

The UI is clean and I immediately noticed the absence of the app drawer similar to the Mi 3 I reviewed recently. I am also curious how slim form-factor would affect the performance of the Octa-Core processor.  Would it heat up easily? I will discuss more of this on my full review for my next post.

Here are some more photos with the other smartphones:

slightly thinner than 4 25 centavo coins on top of each other.

We don’t have the official price of the Elife S5.5 yet but it will be announced during their launch on July 13.

I will post my full review next week, but if you want to know some of my thoughts and experience with the Gionee Elife S5.5, follow me on Facebook (http://facebook.com/DRontheGo) or on Twitter @dronthego (http://twitter.com/dronthego)
