First Look: Huawei Y7a Unboxing, First Impressions, Camera Samples

This year alone I have reviewed quite a number of Huawei’s Y-series phones ranging from P4,490 to P12,990. This certainly means that Huawei is also taking this market segment quite seriously. Just recently, they rebranded their Y-series from just entry-level phone users to youth-focused devices that cover a wide range of hobbies and interests. Lately, the Y-series models have added more features usually found in mid-range phones to give the youthful users of the Y-series a phone they can use to create and express themselves. Their latest phone is the Huawei Y7a and it does have the features young users would need in a mobile device. We explore the Huawei Y7a and share our unboxing and first impressions.

I did not expect for the Huawei Y7a to be a big phone. I assumed it was the same size of the Huawei Y6p. It measures 165.7mm in length and 76.9mm wide which is the usual size of mid-range smartphones. It weighs 206 grams, which is a bit on the heavy side.

Found on the Huawei Y7a are the power button and volume controls. Instead of placing the fingerprint scanner at the back, it was integrated with the power button similar to the Huawei Y9s. So far, the fingerprint scanner responds fast enough to my touches.

At the bottom are the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille.

Crush Green is one of my favorite colors in Huawei and thank goodness that’s the color they sent me with my review unit. Since it is made of plastic, the back cover can be easily smudged with my fingerprints so I had to wipe it off once in a while. Its edges are curved though so the phone is comfortable to hold. Also found on the back of the phone are the quad-cameras arranged in a singular row.

Speaking of cameras, here are the sample photos taken with Huawei Y7a:
