DJI Flip Drone Review: The Ultimate Beginner-Friendly Drone for Vloggers in 2025

DJI starts 2025 with a bang, introducing a new drone that boasts an innovative design and is targeted at beginners and vloggers. Meet the DJI Flip, a device that might just change your mind if you passed on last year’s DJI Neo. Dive into our full review to discover what makes this drone stand out.

The Unboxing

The DJI Flip comes in three product versions, and we have the DJI Flip Fly More Combo. Other options are the DJI Flip with DJI RC-N3 and the DJI Flip with DJI RC 2.

With the Fly More Combo, you will receive two extra batteries (for a total of three), a charging hub, three pairs of propellers, and a shoulder bag that fits the DJI Flip perfectly along with the other included items.

If you opt for the DJI Flip with DJI RC-N3 or the DJI Flip with DJI RC 2, you will receive the unit itself, one pair of propellers, and one battery already attached to the drone.

The Design

The DJI Flip features a unique design, with its propellers fully enclosed by guards for added safety and foldable for easy travel. Additionally, it weighs only 249g, which means it can be operated without requiring a license.

One standout feature of the DJI Flip is that it can be operated without a controller. To accommodate this, it includes different modes, which are indicated on the front of the drone. These modes are Follow, Dronie, Circle, Rocket, Spotlight, and Direction Track. To confirm the mode and start flying, there is a button conveniently placed on the right side when facing the front of the drone.

The DJI Flip comes with an internal storage capacity of 1.9GB, which feels insufficient, especially considering that DJI’s more affordable drone, the DJI Neo, includes 22GB of storage. However, the Flip does have a microSD slot, allowing for expandable storage.

The Controls

You have plenty of options to control your DJI Flip. You can operate it directly from the drone itself, without needing a phone or controller, making it quicker to capture a video of the place you’re visiting.

You can also install the DJI Fly app on your Android or iOS device. In addition to flying the drone, the app allows you to download footage and photos directly from the drone, enabling you to post on social media more quickly.

Alternatively, you can connect the DJI Flip to a DJI RC-N3 or DJI RC 2, which are the current compatible controllers as of the time of writing this review.

The Camera

The DJI Flip features a 1/1.3-inch sensor with a 48-megapixel camera capable of recording video at up to 4K@60fps. It also supports slow-motion video recording at 1080p@100fps.

You can set the video aspect ratio to 16:9 for landscape videos or 9:16, making it easy to capture content for TikTok, Facebook Reels, or YouTube Shorts. Additionally, you can configure the color profile to D-Log M, which makes it easier to color grade videos during post-production. There’s also an option to select the encoding format, either H.264 or H.265.

When recording video with the drone using your mobile phone, you can use the phone as a microphone. However, note that during recording, you should avoid turning off the screen or switching to other apps, as this will stop the audio from being captured.

For photo settings, you can choose between JPEG, RAW, or both formats. The aspect ratio can be set to either 16:9 or 4:3. Photo resolution options include the full 48 megapixels or 12 megapixels.

The video quality is a significant upgrade compared to what you get with the DJI Neo. You can clearly see that the video we captured has better details and more vivid colors. Additionally, it allows you to track people, which is a really handy feature for vloggers.

Similar to its video quality, the photos turn out well. You can see how it accurately captures the scene, and its dynamic range is quite impressive.

The Flight Experience

The DJI Flip is designed for easy control directly from the drone itself. Once you open the propellers, it automatically powers on, and you can easily switch between modes right on the drone. Alternatively, you can quickly connect it via the DJI Fly app if you prefer to control it from your phone.

The DJI Flip has built-in GPS, so you don’t have to worry about losing it, as it can automatically return to its home point. It also features Obstacle Avoidance, which allows the drone to automatically brake when it detects obstacles. However, this feature only works for obstacles in front of the drone and does not detect objects in other directions.

In the controller settings, you can set the maximum altitude to 500 meters and the maximum distance to “no limit.” However, even though you can adjust these settings, always check the flying zone beforehand, as flying in a restricted area could get you into trouble.

Like other drones we’ve tested, the DJI Flip has a similar feel and operation. So, you don’t have to worry about learning anything new, as the flying experience is much the same.

Our experience flying the DJI Flip was smooth and easy. However, it’s important to check the wind conditions before flying, as strong winds can overload the gimbal motor of the camera. Additionally, the drone may struggle in high winds, as its wind resistance isn’t as high as that of drones like the DJI Mavic Mini 2. Therefore, it’s best to limit the altitude to around 120 meters for safety.

The Battery

The DJI Flip comes with a 3310 mAh battery, which is almost twice the size of the DJI Neo’s battery. This results in a flight time that’s also nearly twice as long. In our tests, the DJI Flip was able to fly for almost 30 minutes, which is impressive and gives you plenty of time to get the most out of the drone.

When charging the DJI Flip, you can connect it to your charger via its USB Type-C port, and it will charge within an hour. If you purchase the Fly More Combo, it includes a charging hub that allows you to charge up to four batteries simultaneously, although only three are included with the combo. The charging hub can fully charge all batteries within 2 hours.

DJI Flip Verdict

The DJI Flip kicks off 2025 with an impressive drone that’s perfect for beginners and vloggers alike. They’ve really improved on the DJI Neo, creating a version that’s sure to turn heads for those looking for better camera capabilities and longer flight time. I also really like how the propellers fold for easy packing into your bag.

However, there are a few downsides, such as its tiny internal storage and limited wind resistance, which restrict its ability to fly in certain conditions. Despite these limitations, it remains a fantastic drone for beginners and vloggers, with the ability to record both landscape and TikTok video formats, making content creation a breeze.

The DJI Flip is available in three product versions, and here are the prices:

  • DJI Flip Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2) – PHP 40,890.00
  • DJI Flip (DJI RC 2) – PHP 32,890.00
  • DJI Flip (DJI RC-N3) – PHP 22,890.00
