ASUS Business, the brand behind this ASUS ExpertBook Ultra review, has been producing computers for Enterprises and SMBs (Small and Medium-sized Businesses) for the past several years. We have reviewed them as early as 2017 (ASUSPRO D320MT) and our most recent one was the ASUS ExpertBook P5 P5405 last year.
ASUS Business invited us to review their latest, most powerful business flagship laptop, the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra. I didn’t let them finish their explanation while they were offering it to me. I told them, ‘Give it to me! Pronto!

ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review: The Built and Design
Since the ASUS ExpertBook P5 was introduced last year, the series became known for its durability. Why? Because accidents happen in the office too! I’ll explain this later in the review.
The ASUS ExpertBook Ultra is a robust laptop made of magnesium-aluminum coated with 9H Nano Ceramic Technology, making it scratch, stain, spill resistant, and very durable that doesn’t compromise with its weight. The ASUS ExpertBook Ultra’s weight starts at only 0.99kg up to 1.09kg, lighter than the MacBook Air M5. Who would’ve thought a notebook PC this tough is also very light.
The color of my ASUS ExpertBook Ultra review unit is Morn Grey, the more popular color that isn’t common for laptops. Its texture is soft like my ZenBook A14, but it’s sturdy when I tried to twist the lid. I wish they went for the ASUS ExpertBook logo found on the P5 rather than the ASUS logo. It would have given the device personality, proving this wasn’t your papa’s 90s business laptop.
The ASUS ExpertBook Ultra is 10.9mm thin. Ports on the left side are the HDMI 2.1 TMDS, Thunderbolt 4 that supports display and power delivery, Type-A USB 2.0 and a 3.5mm combo. On the other side are a Thunderbolt 4 port and a Type-A USB 2.0 port.
Found at the back is a cooling system called the ASUS ExpertCool Pro. This helps manage the laptop’s thermals and prevents it from thermal throttling.
Among all the ASUS laptops I’ve reviewed for more than a decade, I consider the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra to have the best keyboard. It has 1.5mm key travel which means it’s very comfortable and enjoyable to use! This is the keyboard I prefer in a laptop, which could make me type more words so much my brain has to rush with the next sentences because my fingers are excited to type them away! My complaint here is the white backlight that makes the keyboard hard to read if it’s under a well-lit environment.
The 6-sensor haptic touchpad is nice but it’s a bit sensitive. I always accidentally adjust the brightness of the screen whenever my finger brushes against it.
ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review – Why Is It Focused on Durability?
I mentioned earlier why one of main features of the ASUS ExpertBook series is its durability. Based on what I’ve researched, there are around 10-15% of corporate employees who damage their company-issued laptops on an annual basis. This adds burden not only to their respective IT departments, but also to their companies’ finances.
But it’s not all about the damages caused by these employees. It’s also about protecting their company’s long-term investment on these devices. Nowadays, the modern workforce is into a hybrid setup which posts more risk to potential accidental damages.
For people working at home, there’s a possibility that they might spill over their drinks on their laptops. When commuting, some people may throw all other stuff into their bag with their laptops inside without any protection. First-time users may not be aware that their prized workhorse should be at least covered in a protective sleeve. In an office where people rush from one meeting to another, they might close their laptops, forgetting there’s an object (usually a pen) sandwiched inside them.
The ASUS ExpertBook Ultra can withstand all sorts of durability tests thrown at it. Its durability is military-grade, with MIL-STD-810H certification. It was dropped repeatedly to simulate slipping out of a user’s hands or off a desk. A pressure test was made by stacking 100kg of heavy weights on top of the laptop’s cover to test if its display will break. There’s also a spill-resistant test on the laptop’s keyboard. It actually happened to me last week and thank goodness the laptop survived!

ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review: The Display and Sound
On my first couple of days of using the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra, I noticed there was something different with its screen. Turns out that it’s not an ordinary OLED display. This business laptop comes with a 14-inch 3K tandem OLED display. What makes it special is the tandem OLED display stacks two layers of organic LEDs on top of each other, benefitting the user with higher peak brightness and longer lifespan. I was surprised it has a touchscreen after I swiped my finger on it. It supports both 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and 100% sRGB color gamut, meaning this laptop is not only meant for executives but for creative people too.
All I can say about the display is it certainly is gorgeous!
Normally, laptop speakers are found underneath. Thank goodness ASUS Business decided to place the speakers on each side of the keyboard. This six-speaker system is tuned by Dolby-Atmos. The sound is full and deep, I didn’t need to pair it with my soundbar at my home office.
ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review: The Performance
Under the hood of my ASUS ExpertBook Ultra review unit is a 1.9GHz Intel Core Ultra X7 358H paired with an Intel ARC B390 Graphics. For those who want the most powerful processor for the laptop, they can opt for the Intel Core Ultra X9-388H processor. I think this is the most powerful non-gaming laptop I’ve ever used. My review unit’s configuration consists of 2TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD and LPDDR5X 64GB memory. Let me share the results of the benchmark tests I’ve done with the laptop.

For the past month, I almost did everything with the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra. I usually have more than 30 tabs opened on Google Chrome for research, with Microsoft Word, Excel, Edge, File Explorer Windows and Davinci Resolve opened. I recently started shooting and editing 4K videos in Davinci Resolve. Compared to other laptops I’ve used and reviewed, it seems the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra didn’t break much of a sweat when rendering my 4K videos. The only thing I didn’t bother to do is gaming, because this isn’t a gaming laptop in the first place. If I do test it, I know playing AAA games will work but they should be on low settings.
ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review: Security
Except for their IT guys, companies have the tendency to disregard the importance of security. They sometimes forget they’re carrying confidential information like financial documents or NDAs that are not supposed to be seen by anyone else. ASUS Business takes Security seriously. Beyond its durable design, the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra offers layered security that ensures a company’s data remains safe if a device is ever compromised.
ASUS ExpertGuardian
ASUS ExpertGuardian secures the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra by combining firmware-level protection, Windows-level protection, and long-term update support to defend against evolving threats. The ASUS ExpertBook Ultra is based on the NIST SP 800-193 compliant with the US Government cybersecurity rules which protects it from modern cyber attacks. In case it gets affected by an attack, it automatically restores the trusted version preventing failure and downtime.
Webcam Shield
It is very much possible to get hacked and access your computer including its webcam. Whether you believe it or not, ASUS included a sliding webcam cover to ensure your privacy when the camera is not in use.
Fingerprint Login
The ExpertBook Ultra’s Fingerprint login has FIDO2 authentication, which ensures greater security and privacy, user-friendly experiences, and improved scalability. FIDO2 also reduces workloads and costs associated with access management.
TPM 2.0
Trusted Platform Module 2.0 or TPM 2.0 is a security microchip found on a computer’s motherboard or in its processor that provides hardware-based security features. While other competitors’ laptops use software-based TPM, the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra uses both the software TPM plus a more secured hardware-based TPM.
The hardware TPM is for companies requiring enhanced security – a separate dedicated physical TPM chip that securely stores authentication information, such as passwords or encryption keys, to further protect important data and transactions.
With these security features, I can say that a CEO and his executive team will have peace of mind if their ASUS ExpertBook Ultra laptops are compromised.
ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review: The Battery Life
I had my ASUS ExpertBook Ultra review unit undergo a 4K video loop test. Honestly, I was expecting it to conk out by the time I wake up. To my surprise, it was still running after 7 hours of sleep. It eventually shut down before it reached the 8-hour mark.
My average battery life is around 9–10 hours when working between a coffee shop and home unplugged. Impressive!
ASUS ExpertBook Ultra Review: DR’s Conclusion
Last year, I declared the ASUS ExpertBook P5 was the best laptop for SMEs. Today, I declare the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra the best laptop a CEO (as well as those who have important positions that require powerful and secured computing) should have. The durability, performance and security it offers should be non-negotiable for a corporate laptop. It certainly is pricey, but it is a good investment for executives in the corporate world (and less headaches for I.T. Support.)
