DJI Lito X1 Review: For Drone Beginners with Advanced Needs

As we mentioned in our DJI Lito 1 Review, we were lent the DJI Lito X1 not only to review it too, but also to compare it with the Lito 1. The two are highly recommended camera drones for beginners and enthusiasts and the common question is: which Lito should we choose? Hopefully after reading our DJI Lito X1 review you will be able to decide which one to purchase.

The Unboxing

DJI Lito X1

The box seems to be larger than the Lito 1. I suspect this is the Fly More Combo.

DJI Lito X1

I was right. I opened the box and saw a shoulder bag that contained the DJI Lito X1, DJI RC 2, 3 x Intelligent Flight Battery, charging hub, 3 pairs of extra propellers, screwdriver, User Manual and stickers.

The Built and Design

DJI Lito X1

Side by side, the Lito 1 and Lito X1 are almost similar in appearance, size and weight. There are a few differences about their appearances. First, the Lito X1 comes in the standard grey, while the Lito 1 features a lighter shade of the same color. Second, the Lito X1’s camera has mounts and notches for ND filters. Notice the Lito 1’s camera doesn’t have such in its camera module.

On top of the camera are the LiDAR sensors which is the Lito X1’s sensor for mapping and obstacle avoidance in areas where the camera cannot see any object. Below is the aforementioned camera attached to its 3-axis gimbal. These sensors are what’s missing in the Lito 1.

The monocular vision cameras are found on the top and bottom of the Lito X1. They complement the LiDAR sensors for both navigation and sensing any potential obstacles. Lito 1 has this but its obstacle avoidance is less effective in low-light conditions without the LiDAR.

DJI Lito X1

Similar to the Lito 1, the back of the Lito X1 are the rear vents, Intelligent Flight Battery, Type-C USB Port, MicroSD Card slot, and a battery meter. It still has four propellers like Lito 1 and other Mini drones.

The Camera

DJI Lito X1

Equipped with a 48 Megapixel camera and a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, the Lito X1 wins over the Lito 1. Its advantage is the larger sensor, meaning it can take better pictures in low-light environments. Those who would like to take aerial photos of the city at night will love this feature. Generally speaking, the Lito X1 does a great job in taking photos during broad daylight. I don’t see much difference with the Lito 1 when taking aerial photos during the day.

Here are some sample photos by the DJI Lito X1:

For capturing videos, the Lito X1 not only can record 4K video up to 60fps, but also 100 fps slow motion video. It also has D-Log M 10-bit for advanced videographers who want to color-grade their recorded videos. Lastly, the Lito X1 can also take videos vertically though the camera doesn’t rotate but rather crops the video at the center.

The Performance

DJI Lito X1

The remote control that came with the Lito X1 is the DJI RC 2 which I prefer over the RC N3. Personally, I’d rather have a remote control with a built-in screen rather than use my phone which may interfere when it receives a call or a message.

Performance-wise, the Lito X1 offers a few more features than the Lito 1. The combination of LiDAR and obstacle avoidance makes it a safer choice to fly. It intelligently avoided large obstacles in its way, even at night. Another advantage is its 42GB of built-in storage. As I noted in my Lito 1 review, I frequently needed a microSD card before I could fly that older model.

DR’S CONCLUSION

DJI Lito X1

Having reviewed the DJI Lito X1, it gave me a clearer understanding why they have to be sold separately. I still recommend the Lito 1 for beginners in flying a drone, those who simply want to use it to record their personal trips. The DJI Lito X1 is for those who need an advanced drone with the capability of taking aerial photos and videos in low-light conditions with the safety provided by LiDAR and obstacle avoidance. It is also for those who want to use drones for filmmaking and need to color-grade their aerial videos.
