The Design

ASUS Vivobook S16

The ASUS Vivobook S16 keeps the clean metal lid of the previous model and passes the MIL-STD-810H durability tests for high- and low-temperature exposure, shock, vibration, and altitude.

Inside is a compact keyboard with a square-key numpad. The function row doubles as shortcuts for volume, backlight, brightness, emoji picker, mic mute, directional audio, touchpad toggle, and MyASUS quick launch, all of which speed up everyday tasks.

The large touchpad adds smart gestures: slide up or down the left edge to change volume, use the right edge for brightness, and swipe left or right along the top to navigate back and forth in apps or videos. These work alongside Windows’ native gestures to boost productivity.

A Full HD camera with Windows Hello face recognition lets you sign in instantly. For best results, run “Improve Recognition” once with glasses on and once without. The camera also includes a physical privacy shutter for added security.

Even with a 16-inch display, the laptop remains portable at 1.59 cm thick and 1.70 kg, making it an easy travel companion.

Port selection is decent. On the right, you get two USB 3.2 Type-C Gen 1 ports with display 1.2 and power-delivery 3.0 support, an HDMI 1.4 port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack. The left side carries a second USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and the status LEDs.

The Display and Speaker

ASUS Vivobook S16

The ASUS Vivobook S16 features a 16-inch IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio, offering a resolution of 1920×1200. It has a peak brightness of up to 300 nits, which might be a bit challenging to use under direct sunlight but is perfectly fine for indoor use. For color, it’s advertised to cover 45% of the NTSC color gamut. The display is also TÜV Rheinland-certified for low blue light, making it easier on the eyes during extended use.

We tested the display using the SpyderX Pro and found that it covers only 64% of sRGB (48% AdobeRGB, 47% DCI-P3). This makes it suitable for documents, web browsing, and media consumption, but not ideal for color-critical photo or video editing. Peak brightness reaches 326 nits with a 970:1 contrast ratio, providing good visibility indoors and decent depth for SDR content. The white point remains close to 6500 K across all brightness levels, so there’s no noticeable color shift when adjusting the backlight. While calibration can slightly improve accuracy, the limited color gamut is a hardware limitation that can’t be corrected. Overall, it’s a dependable everyday display, but not recommended for professional color work.

The downward-firing speakers support Dolby Atmos and ASUS Audio Booster, delivering clear, undistorted sound even at full volume.

The Performance

ASUS Vivobook S16

Inside of the ASUS Vivobook S16 is the latest Intel Core Ultra 7 255H which is a 16 cores 16 threads capable to run up to 5.1GHz with Intel AI Boost NPU up to 13TOPS. For the graphics it has Intel Arc Graphics. The unit shipped here pairs 16 GB of fast LPDDR5X memory with a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, so apps launch instantly and large media projects move in seconds.

The MyASUS app lets you adjust settings for performance, battery care, audio, display, connectivity, and input devices. It offers four performance modes: Full-Speed, Performance, Standard, and Whisper. By default, the laptop runs on Standard mode. Switching to Performance or Full-Speed gives a noticeable performance boost but also increases fan noise. Whisper mode, on the other hand, keeps the system quieter by lowering power usage translating for more battery life.

Everyday use is smooth, and the Vivobook S16 will not slow you down even when you dip into light graphics or 1080p video editing. It is far more than a browser-and-spreadsheet machine, thanks to its Intel Core Ultra processor, fast PCIe 4.0 SSD, and ample memory, which keep creative apps responsive.

While it lacks a dedicated graphics card, the built-in Intel Arc GPU is still strong enough for esports titles like Valorant or CS2, so you can take advantage of the 144 Hz display for casual or competitive play.

The Battery

One of the standout features of the ASUS Vivobook S16 is its battery. The 70 Wh four-cell (4S1P) lithium-ion pack is rated for up to 20 hours of mixed use. In our YouTube loop at 50 percent brightness it lasted 11 hours 20 minutes, and in a real-world workload of browsing, writing, and light photo editing it still reached 10 hours. That lets you finish an eight-hour workday and still have charge to spare, so you can leave the power brick at home without worry.

When it is time to top up, the bundled 65 W adapter takes the battery from empty to about 60 percent in under an hour. Because the laptop supports USB-C Power Delivery, you can travel with a compact 60 W GaN phone charger instead. It refills the battery almost as quickly and saves space in your bag.
