THE UNBOXING

Unlike the packaging of the realme 5 and 5 Pro, the realme 6 is now in a bright yellow box. I guess they changed it to make it uniform with the other models. It’s also easy to identify since yellow is realme’s color. Inside the box are the realme 6, USB Type-C cable, 30W Charger, Silicon Case and User Manual.

REALME 6 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The back cover of the realme 6 left me stunned by its shiny looks. Our friends from realme explained that its design was inspired by the comet that splits the dark night sky. It looks awesome, but my concern is the material used in the back cover. It’s made of polycarbonate and based on other phones I’ve reviewed before, this kind of material is prone to scratches. While I would like to have the phone “naked”, I think it would be best to use the silicon case that came with the package.

The power button on the right side of the realme 6 is also a fingerprint scanner.

Bye-bye notch! realme applied the punch-hole display to accommodate its 16 Megapixel front camera. The phone now looks modern, ‘coz notches are so 2019.

One of the major features of the realme 6 is its 90Hz screen refresh rate. We normally see high refresh rates in flagship phones so I’m happy that realme brought it to the realme 6. As far as I know, it’s the only mid-range phone in the Philippines that has a 90Hz refresh rate. It’s on Auto Select by default which automatically scales the refresh rate depending on the app being used. I selected 90Hz so I can enjoy its ultra smooth display as well as observe how much it will affect its battery life.

realme still relied on MediaTek to power their latest phone, and it’s the processor I’ve been wanting to test since it was announced last year. The Helio G90T is a powerful processor and can handle mobile gaming a lot better than its counterpart, Qualcomm Snapdragon 712. The Antutu Benchmark score I posted above beats other mid-range phones even those in the P20,000-P30,000 price range. Very impressive! I am installing more games as I write this post and I intend to test on how it would fare with mobile gaming.

The realme 6 has four cameras in the rear: 64 Megapixels with f/1.8, 8 Megapixels ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.3, 2 Megapixels macro lens with f/2.4 and 2 Megapixels Black and White portrait lens also with f/2.4. Like the realme 6i, the main camera of the realme 6 is not set to 64 Megapixels as a default, instead it is set to 16 Megapixels, which isn’t bad at all when I took these sample photos:

Can’t find any faults in these sample photos I took today, so I think the cameras are good enough. There are lot of things to be explored with these cameras, so I’ll be doing some more tests for the rest of the week and see if they can really take awesome pictures and videos.

I’ll try to come up with the full review in a few days. Again, don’t forget to watch the realme 6 and 6 Pro launch tomorrow, May 27, 12 noon at the realme Facebook page.
