Microsoft Fast-forwards to Windows 10

Just when people are starting to get used to Windows 8, Microsoft has shaken things up once again with the unveiling of its newest flagship operating system, Windows 10.

Purposely skipping 9, the company shares that the OS is “at a threshold” and that “it’s time for a new Windows” – one that’s especially built to accommodate both mobile and cloud technology.

Windows 10 will encompass many devices, aiming to bring a customized user experience to each. It will also support developers by providing a universal language for apps.

With this new platform still in the works, Microsoft is very much interested in user feedback. Announcing the Windows Insider Program, the company invites PC and IT experts to download the technical preview of Windows 10 for an early evaluation.

In a short introduction, Windows Vice President Joe Belfiore showcases several new things that Windows 10 has to offer:

  • A beefed-up Start Menu with space for customizable live tilesWindows 10 Start Menu
  • Search access on the Menu and the Task Bar, which gives results from both PC and the Web
  • Windows Apps Store recalibrated for all device and screen typesWindows 10 Apps
  • A new Task View button that enables users to switch between open appsWindows 10 Tiles
  • An improved Snap Window function that suggests other useful apps based on the snapped app.Windows 10 Snap
  • The ability to create different desktopsWindows 10 Desktops

More features will be available as Windows 10 goes through the technical preview, so keep checking in for updates.
