As information is one of the best tools when facing natural disasters, Google has recently created its Crisis Response for Typhoon Hagupit (“Ruby”), which serves as a hub where all those who can still access the Internet can stay updated and help others who have been cut-off by the storm.
The website utilizes Google tools such as Crisis Maps which can track the location of Typhoon Hagupit and locate evacuation centers, Google Public Alerts, which is a collation of streams of real-time news and updates from different sources, and Person Finder, a feature that gathers information through crowd-sourcing with the aim to help those in affected areas get leads as to where their missing loved ones may be.
