The Unboxing

The nubia V80 Max comes in a box that highlights the phone’s key features, along with its RAM and storage configuration printed on the front. Inside, you are greeted with the smartphone itself, a clear silicone case, a 22.5W charger, a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, a SIM ejector pin, a user guide, and a warranty card. It is a complete package and a nice bonus for a budget device.
The Design

The nubia V80 Max features a clean and minimalist design, although it is easy to see that its styling takes inspiration from other brands. One important thing to note is the rear camera layout. While it appears to have a triple-camera setup, only one camera is actually functional.
Durability is one of the main selling points of this phone. nubia highlights its TÜV-certified drop resistance, along with an IP64 rating for water and dust resistance. This means light rain or accidental splashes should not be a problem, especially for users who are often on the go.
The phone also uses reinforced materials in key areas. It has a durable glass front with a reinforced curved-edge design and 360-degree all-around protection to better handle drops and impacts.
In terms of ports and buttons, the volume rocker and power button, which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner, are located on the right side. The left side houses the SIM tray, which supports dual nano SIM cards along with a dedicated microSD card slot. At the bottom, you will find the speaker grille, USB Type-C port, microphone hole, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Display and Speaker

The nubia V80 Max sports a large 6.9-inch HD+ IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Color reproduction is average, which is expected from an IPS panel at this price point, but the large screen size makes it enjoyable for watching videos and playing games. The high refresh rate also helps make scrolling and basic navigation feel smoother.
Audio comes from a single down-firing speaker. Despite this, sound output is surprisingly loud and clear. It does not sound thin or hollow, which is often the case with budget phones. For users who prefer wired audio, the presence of a headphone jack is still a welcome feature.
The Performance

Powering the nubia V80 Max is the Unisoc T7250 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and an additional 8GB of extended RAM. The unit we tested comes with 128GB of internal storage, which is enough for casual users who mainly store photos, videos, and apps. Heavy gamers, however, may find this limiting given the increasing size of modern games.
Here are the benchmark results we got with the nubia V80 Max:

The phone runs MyOS 16 based on Android 16. The software experience is clean, with minimal bloatware, and it feels close to stock Android. There are no excessive animations or unnecessary features, which helps keep the system responsive.
In everyday use, performance is exactly what you would expect at this price point. Basic tasks such as messaging, browsing, and social media run smoothly. Some slowdowns can happen when quickly switching between multiple apps, but they are not frequent enough to be deal-breakers.
For gaming, casual titles run well on low graphics settings. Games like Honor of Kings maintain stable frame rates even during intense moments. More demanding games such as Genshin Impact are still playable, but you will notice stutters and frame drops, especially in complex scenes.
If you compare it with the nubia V80 Design we previously reviewed, the performance gap between the two is very small. Based on our benchmark results and hands-on gaming experience, the differences are minimal and likely hard to notice in real-world use if performance is your only point of comparison.
nubia also adds practical software features like AI Scam Alert, which helps detect suspicious calls and messages, and One-Swipe AI Memory, which allows quick and private access to stored sensitive information. These additions are useful without feeling intrusive.
The Camera

Just like other budget nubia phones we have reviewed, the nubia V80 Max only has one usable rear camera despite its triple-camera appearance. The rear camera is a 50-megapixel shooter, while the front camera is a 16-megapixel sensor housed in a teardrop notch.
nubia V80 Max – Main Camera Sample In good lighting, photos from the main camera are acceptable. Colors look decent and details are adequate for casual use, but dynamic range is limited. Bright areas can get blown out, while darker areas may lose detail.
nubia V80 Max – Selfie Camera Sample Low-light performance is where the camera struggles. Noise becomes very noticeable, and fine details are often lost. This is expected in this segment, but it is something to keep in mind.
The 16-megapixel front camera is good enough for selfies and video calls. Images tend to look slightly processed, but they are still suitable for social media posting given the phone’s price.
The Battery

The nubia V80 Max is powered by a large 6000mAh battery. With daily activities such as browsing, social media, music streaming, and messaging, it easily lasts a full day and can extend further with lighter use. In our PCMark Work 3.0 Battery Life test, it recorded 14 hours and 26 minutes, which is a solid result for its class.
Charging is handled by a 22.5W fast charger. While this is decent, it is not particularly fast considering the battery capacity. A full charge takes close to two hours, which is acceptable but not impressive.
nubia V80 Max Verdict

The nubia V80 Max is a solid choice for users who prioritize durability, battery life, and a large display while staying on a tight budget. It delivers a clean software experience, dependable everyday performance, and a sturdy build that can handle daily wear and tear.
However, compromises are clearly present. Camera performance is basic, gaming capabilities are limited to casual titles, and charging speeds are on the slower side. The misleading triple-camera design may also disappoint some buyers.
If you are looking for a budget smartphone that focuses on toughness, long battery life, and a big screen rather than flagship-level performance or camera quality, the nubia V80 Max is worth considering.
The nubia V80 Max is available in four color options: Black, Silver, Gold, and Purple. It is priced at PHP 6,499 for the 8GB + 128GB variant and can be purchased through nubia’s official stores on Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok Shop.
