THE UNBOXING

realme 9 Pro

It seems to us that realme took their time and went back to the drawing boards to redesign the packaging design of the realme 9 Pro+. They still retained the yellow-themed box with the number series model in a bigger, bolder font. Personally, this is more appealing to me as a customer.

Inside the box are the realme 9 Pro+, USB Charger Head, Type-C USB cable, silicon case, SIM Card ejector and user manuals.

REALME 9 PRO+ FIRST IMPRESSIONS

realme 9 Pro

There are three things about the realme 9 Pro+ that makes it a must-have smartphone this year, and the first is the phone’s looks. Removing the realme 9 Pro+ from the box, its curves felt quite similar to its predecessor, the realme 8 Pro but this time with a smoother feel at the back panel. Usually, the number series have a textured material for their back panels so they probably thought it’s about time to change it. Thank goodness they didn’t go back to plastic because the 9 Pro+ now has a glass back panel. realme shared with us that the 9 Pro+ is their first smartphone to go through a 3-layer Grain Process, which creates a stunning color-filled shine with a vibrant vertical beam that gleams from every angle. We got an Aurora Green color but we think the Sunrise Blue has the best color in the series.

realme 9 Pro

The 9 Pro+ is the slimmest phone in the number series so far at 7.9mm, 0.2mm slimmer than the 8 Pro. On the left side of the phone are the SIM Card tray slot and the volume controls. The SIM Card tray can accommodate two nano SIM cards. Sadly, it is not possible anymore to use a memory card with this phone.

Found on the other side of the phone is the power button.

The second feature I like with the realme 9 Pro+ is its processor. I have used a smartphone with MediaTek Dimensity 920 and was impressed by its performance. It also has 5G which makes it possible to stream video on demand or play mobile games without any network interruption. We will discuss our experience in our full review next week.

realme 9 Pro

I was disappointed at realme for leaving out the 90Hz refresh rate in the 7 Pro and the 8 Pro. This feature is usually found in realme’s number series’ base models with IPS display screens, contrary to the belief that it works better with AMOLED displays. They probably realized this as the realme 9 Pro+ with Super AMOLED display now has 90Hz refresh rate. realme finally listened!

The last main feature I liked about the 9 Pro+ is its cameras. From four cameras, the 9 Pro+ is down to three and instead of retaining a high resolution camera, they focused on the sensor. The 9 Pro+ comes with a 50 Megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor, usually found in flagship smartphones. The sensor allows the camera to capture more light, making it ideal for low-light photography.

We have yet to take photos during the night but will definitely have them in our full review next week. For the meantime, here are some sample photos:
