The Design
The weight of the DJI Mini 5 Pro has been a topic of discussion since its launch one month ago. According to DJI, the Mini 5 Pro weighs less than 250 grams, but some reports indicate it might weigh a little more, in which case it would need to be registered and licensed to operate. In the Philippines, it still remains classified as a sub-250g drone, so you can fly it without registering it with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The Mini 5 Pro’s design is essentially unchanged from that of its predecessor. A LiDAR sensor on top is the main improvement, as it enhances overall safety and low-light obstacle detection.
The Camera
With a 1-inch sensor, the DJI Mini 5 Pro’s camera has undergone a significant upgrade that significantly enhances nighttime video capture. It can record videos up to 4K at 60 frames per second and take 12MP or full 50MP pictures. It can record in slow motion at 120 frames per second in 4K or 240 frames per second in 1080p.
More color grading options are provided by the camera’s 10-bit color support with D-Log M and HLG. The gimbal is ideal for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok because it can stabilize video and switch to a vertical shooting position. Additionally, it can rotate horizontally up to 225°, providing unusual perspectives for imaginative photographs.
ActiveTrack 360, a new feature of the Mini 5 Pro, enables more intelligent and seamless subject tracking. It greatly simplifies the process of filming moving subjects when combined with LiDAR-assisted obstacle detection.
The 1-inch sensor improves image quality. The footage is sharp and has great detail when the lighting is good. Tighter framing without appreciable quality loss is possible with the “Med-Tele” 2x zoom mode. The Mini 5 Pro outperforms its predecessor in low light, offering better dynamic range, reduced noise, and crisper shadows.

The Performance
The DJI Mini 5 Pro was put to the test in both urban and rural environments. It continues to be responsive, steady, and smooth like other DJI drones.
In Sport mode, it can reach speed up to 19 m/s, with an ascent of 10 m/s and descent of 8 m/s. Meanwhile the Normal and Cine modes offer more controlled ascent and descent movements.
O4+, an upgrade to the transmission system, offers lower latency and improved signal stability. Additionally, internal storage has increased to 42GB, and additional storage can be added via a microSD card slot.
The Battery
The Mini 5 Pro comes with a 2788 mAh Intelligent Flight Battery, giving up to 36 minutes of flight time. If you need more airtime, you can opt for the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus (4680 mAh), which extends flight time to a remarkable 52 minutes. Keep in mind that this will also make the drone weigh more than 250 grams.
