DJI Osmo 360 Review – A Strong Challenger to the 360° Camera Throne

A new challenger has entered the 360° action camera arena, and it comes from a brand already well-known in the action camera and drone market. Can DJI take the crown from Insta360, which has long dominated this space? Let’s find out how the DJI Osmo 360 performs and whether it truly has what it takes to compete in the market.

The Unboxing

We tested the DJI Osmo 360 Adventure Combo, which is the higher-end option alongside the more affordable Standard Combo. The Adventure Combo comes in compact packaging similar to the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro we reviewed recently, but it is filled with useful accessories.

Inside the box, you will find the Osmo 360, three Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus units (also compatible with the Action 5 Pro), a charging case, a protective pouch, a lens cleaning cloth, a USB-C to USB-C PD cable, an adjustable quick-release adapter mount, a 1.2m invisible selfie stick, and a rubber lens protector.

For those planning to use the Osmo 360 as a travel camera, the Adventure Combo is highly recommended since it includes all the essentials, especially the invisible selfie stick and extra batteries. If you want to save some money, the Standard Combo is still a solid choice. Just keep in mind that in the Philippines, first-party DJI Osmo 360 accessories are not yet widely available in local stores.

The 360° Action Camera

DJI Osmo 360 Body

The DJI Osmo 360 is smaller than most of its competitors but comes packed with features. On the back is a 2-inch touchscreen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a peak brightness of 800 nits, which is bright enough for outdoor use.

At the bottom, there is a quick-release mount with a tripod screw. The right side houses the power button and USB-C port, while the left side contains the battery compartment and microSD card slot.

The Osmo 360 has an IP68 rating, making it safe for swimming, rain, or underwater use up to 10 meters without a case. DJI also claims it can keep recording for over 1.5 hours in freezing conditions as low as -20°C.

It is slightly lighter than the competition at around 183 grams. Thanks to its compact size, the weight is balanced and comfortable to handle.

Storage is another strong feature. The Osmo 360 comes with 105GB of built-in storage, allowing you to record 8K at 30fps immediately without needing a high-speed microSD card. If you prefer external storage, DJI recommends a UHS-I card with a V30 rating or higher.

The camera includes four built-in microphones that record in mono or stereo and feature wind noise reduction. You can also connect up to two DJI microphones directly without needing a receiver, which is convenient for those already using DJI audio gear.

For transferring footage, the Osmo 360 supports Wi-Fi 6.0 and USB 3.1, which makes moving files to a phone or desktop fast and efficient.

The Camera

DJI Osmo 360

The DJI Osmo 360 is equipped with a 1-inch CMOS sensor capable of recording up to 8K@50fps or native 8K@30fps. For higher frame rate for the 360° video you can go for 4k@100fps. It also supports 10-bit color and D-Log M, giving you greater flexibility for post-production work.

Stabilization is another strong point of this camera, featuring RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady. However, HorizonSteady is only available in single-lens mode for regular flat videos with a standard field of view.

The video quality is impressive whether you’re recording during the day or at night, thanks to its 1-inch sensor. In daylight footage, it delivers crisp details with pleasing saturation, while its dynamic range handles both highlights and shadows very well.

Even in low-light environments, it performs well, showing minimal noise in our footage while maintaining crisp details and balanced color saturation

On the photography side, the camera can capture stunning 120-megapixel shots with sharp details and vibrant colors, making it an excellent choice for nature trips or city tours. It also offers the option to shoot in RAW, giving you greater flexibility for post-processing.

The Software

Through the DJI Mimo app, just like with other DJI products, you can connect to the Osmo 360 to access your footage or monitor live recordings. The app also makes quick edits easy with plenty of templates and presets, perfect for creating social media posts such as reels or standard videos. You also have the option to keep the full 360° format for VR headsets or other platforms.

For desktop editing, DJI provides the DJI Studio app, which allows you to process and export videos. There are also plugins available for Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, making it a solid option for professional workflows.

The Battery

Powering the DJI Osmo 360 is a 1950 mAh battery, the same one used in the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. If you already own the Action 5 Pro, you can share batteries between the two cameras.

In our experience, battery life was close to DJI’s claims, delivering nearly 100 minutes of continuous 8K 360° recording.

Charging is also quick. With a 30W PD charger, the Osmo 360 reaches 50 percent in just 12 minutes, which is very convenient when using only the Standard Combo.
