SoundPeats TrueAir 2 Review: 25-Hour Playback

Everyone knows how pesky it is to have to bend your fingers at an awkward angle just to avoid the headphone plug jutting out of your phone while gaming or watching movies. It’s something we all suffered through at one point. Then came the genius invention of wireless earphones, but it also wasn’t something everyone could afford easily. Today, you can get a decent pair for around P3,000, which we admit is still a bit of a spend. However, if you’re really wanting to get one, consider SoundPeats’ TrueAir 2, which retails for P2,590 but is now on sale at Digital Walker for only P1,490. Here’s everything you need to know about the TrueAir 2.

TrueAir 2

The TrueAir2 comes in a flat, rounded square case that opens upwards—much like a compact mirror would—and the buds lie horizontally rather than vertically. If you’ve ever struggled putting earbuds back into an upright case (surely, this happens to others?) then this one will frustrate less. The case itself is matte plastic and comes in black, white, green, and pink. There’s also a USB type-C charging slot to the side.

The earbuds are matte plastic as well with a flat stem, making them easy to hold and put on. Additionally, the Soundpeats logo on both buds house touch sensors where you can play, pause, skip, bring up your voice assistant, and more.

On the ear, the buds fit snugly and comfortably. There’s no soreness even after long call sessions and you’d barely notice them there. Yoga inversions and jogs can’t shake them off easily, too. They’re also IPX4 certified or splash-resistant, which means you can sweat it out with them.

TrueAir 2

Inside the TrueAir 2 is a Qualcomm QCC 3040 chip, which is responsible for lending clear audio to calls as well as balancing battery usage between the buds with True Wireless mirroring. Taking calls on the TrueAir 2 is pleasant and strain-free, no shouting required. Aside from these, it comes with standard features. It does have a gaming mode which reduces latency and is a nice touch to this pair of entry-level earbuds. But the piece de resistance of the TrueAir 2 is its battery life. Soundpeats advertises a 25-hour playtime with its case holding four full recharges. In real-life, it exceeded expectations and was able to go for nearly a week of use without needing to plug it in. This included several hours of online meetings, around an hour or two of gaming, and listening to music while working out.

TrueAir 2

Sound-wise, the TrueAir 2 is equipped with a 14.2mm driver which delivers crisp mid-notes but misses at times on its highs and bass. But if you’re not very particular about your sound, you probably won’t mind that much. In quiet environments, you do have to turn the volume way up to be able to hear the notes clearly. Audio also tends to be on the softer side and muffles out in noisier settings.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a pair of budget true wireless earphones, the Soundpeats TrueAir 2 is a no-frills set-up good for online classes or meetings as its impressive battery life can endure long hours and needs minimal recharging. However, it struggles when there’s a lot of background noise present, so if you’re planning to use it mostly in public spaces or during the rush-hour commute (post-COVID, of course), then it might be better to invest in a pair with active noise cancelling.
