Schools Assist Students in Online Classes Transition

Ateneo De Davao University was the first among schools to fully prepare students for their classes to go online due to the global pandemic. See how they did it!

Early into the year, many underestimated the global impact of the coronavirus. Not Ateneo De Davao University. When what was once an isolated epidemic was officially declared as a global pandemic, the school officials immediately had a plan.

Online Classes

Since 2013, the university has already explored digital platforms as one of its learning modes. This experience meant greatly to the ease in shifting to online classes. Utilizing platforms such as Google Classroom and Moodle, the more accessible social media, videoconferencing, and chat apps made communication smoother.

Plus, the school made sure that all homes were wired to a reliable internet source. AdDU provided their community with PLDT Home Prepaid Wi-Fi units, which ensured stable connection and no students left behind. Furthermore, Ateneo also provided 155 iPads and digital pencils to its scholars and financially challenged students.

Similarly, Davao Christian High School also planned ahead for students. It was also through experience that made the transition less demanding. Beforehand, teachers were instructed on Google Classroom and students were already assigned accounts.

Aside from that, the school had also been utilizing the Dynamic Learning Program which focuses on self- study. Despite the minimal teacher intervention, the students were experienced in doing worksheets on their own.

In a statement, AdDU president Fr. Joel E. Tabora SJ said staying at home was an opportunity for genuine academic growth. The new normal may be daunting, but together, and with proper use of technology, we can surely cope and move forward.
