First Look: Realme 6i Unboxing, First Impressions, Antutu Benchmark, Sample Photos

Realme’s successful launch of the realme c3 last March was supposed to be followed-up with another product reveal from the youthful phone brand. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened and most parts of the Philippines went under lockdown. After two months of being under lockdown (and the possibility of another extension), realme is pursuing to announce their newest phone in the market – the Realme 6i. We received our unit yesterday and now we are going to share our Realme 6i First Impressions.

THE UNBOXING – REALME 6I FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Staring at me is the familiar yellow box of realme. I now realized that all their entry-level phones have this packaging.

Inside the box are the Realme 6i, Type-C USB cable, and USB Charger. Not included in the photo are the silicon case, SIM Card ejector and the user manuals. As always, they do not include earphones to keep their costs down.

I felt something familiar upon removing the realme 6i from its box. Upon examining the unit, I realized that the 6i’s body is based on the realme 5 series. The volume controls, speaker grilles, camera placements are exactly the same. What differs between the realme 5 and the 6i are the exterior and the Type-C USB port which is now being used in most devices.

What I liked about realme is they keep on coming up with unique designs for their phones. I loved the Sunrise Design of the Realme 5i and Realme C3 which looked really chic. They took a different approach this time on the realme 6i. Naoto Fukasawa, Japanese world-renowned industrial designer responsible for the design of the award-winning realme x2 Pro Master Edition, designed the realme 6i by adopting the rare spray coating process and the phone polished hundreds of times. The back of the phone shows some gradient lines, giving an illusion that they were carved. The Green Tea color may look ordinary, but I found it unique.

The meat of this new phone is its processor. The realme 6i is the FIRST in the Philippines and in the WORLD to have the new MediaTek Helio G80 processor. According to the Taiwanese chipset maker, The Helio G80 is made for everyday mobile gamers in mind. The Antutu Benchmark yielded a score of 202,534 beating the benchmark score of the Realme 5i. Promising improvement, but we will know its gaming performance in the next few days.

The 6i still comes with AI quad-cameras composed of 48 Megapixels, 8 Megapixels, and two 2 Megapixel lenses. Don’t expect that the phone uses 48 Megapixels by default, because it doesn’t. It actually defaults to 12 Megapixels and you’ll need to access the shortcut menu in the camera app to use the 48 Megapixel shooter.

So far, so good. I’ll be taking more photos in the next few days to check if the cameras are really good, if not better than the realme 5 series.

The full review of the realme 6i will be posted on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 so keep it locked in here at the blog.
