Globe Debunks 5G Myths!

New, unfamiliar technology has always been subject to wild and unfounded claims for malicious reasons. In response, Globe has compiled several credible expert opinions and studies on 5G to debunk those myths.

The world has been slowly transitioning into a more improved digital landscape as the “New Normal”. Similarly, technology continues to evolve with us to suit our needs better. 5G has only been recently introduced as the next-generation wireless network. Due to said novelty and unfounded fear, baseless rumors on the speculative “dangers” of 5G have been spreading in countries like the US and Europe.

To prevent ill-founded myths like those from spreading even more locally, Globe has taken to consolidate the facts and figures on 5G. One of the common ill-founded rumors is the existence of detrimental health effects from using 5G.

5G is the latest wireless internet connectivity which is a huge step up from 4G, promising faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and overall better stability. Globe quotes the World Health Organization (WHO)’s statement regarding this: “There are no proven detrimental health effects caused by exposure to 5G or to any wireless technology up to this day.”

UK’s The Guardian also published an article quoting the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) attesting that it is safe as well. The ICNIRP is a german-based scientific body focused on radio broadcast health risks. The two organizations have since stated that 5G won’t be a health risk at all as long as the overall exposure follow international guidelines.

They explain that 5G wireless standard uses beam-foaming technology which allows radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF EMF)  “to be focused to the region where it is needed.” In other words, it doesn’t spread to a large area. This is an important point to how 5G can provide better connectivity because the same RF EMF frequencies can be sent to individual users without interfering with each other.

Philippine experts have provided their opinions on this as well with a local context. Dr. Gladys R. Cabrera, Health Physicist IV of DOH have shared the Health Department’s stand since 2001 that cell sites do not cause cancer. Dr. Johanna Cañal, VP of the Philippine Radiology Oncology Society concurs to this.

In conclusion, 5G is indeed safe for the public. Furthermore, there is no evidence supporting any correlation between the pandemic and 5G.
