The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 was launched last summer and after ignoring the previous 3 versions, I am considering of getting one as part of my gear. My Tech media colleagues during the launch event shared with me a lot of their good experiences with the Pocket 4 and convinced me to buy one too since I’ve been taking a lot of videos lately.
I’m kinda leaning to the idea but want to test it first. A week later, DJI Philippines contacted me and offered me to review the DJI Osmo Pocket 4. I’d like to think they have some psychic abilities of learning my interest to try out their unit.

The Unboxing

Packaging comes with a clean, simple design. Photo of the Pocket 4 is also shown.

It’s mind-blowing to see all of these fit inside the packaging I have just unboxed. There’s the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 with the gimbal protector attached, handle, tripod, DJI Mic 3 transmitter, magnetic clip for the Mic 3, magnet, windscreen, Osmo Pocket 4 fill light, 15mm wide-angle lens, DJI Mic 3 magnetic charging cable, Type-C PD cable, DJI wrist strap, DJI carrying bag and DJI carrying pouch.
Whew! That’s a lot indeed!
The Built and Design

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4’s body is made of durable plastics while its gimbal is made of aluminum alloy. On the lower side is the MicroSD card slot which can accommodate up to 1TB.

A 2.0-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 556×314 can be rotated to landscape mode just by flicking the screen. Underneath it is a joystick used for controlling the camera movement, zoom and recenter the camera. On its right is a video recorder/shutter button.

The zoom and custom buttons are revealed when the screen is flicked to landscape mode.

This is my first time to use the Osmo Pocket 4 and I really adore its size. While some users prefer to attach the handle/extended battery to hold the Pocket 4 properly, I was already fine without it. It is pretty lightweight making it easy to hold and take photos/videos.
The Display

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4’s 2.0″ touchscreen display is responsive and lets users access various functions to assist them in capturing photos or videos. While it has already the joystick, I’m so glad DJI made this into a touchscreen so I can easily switch between gimbal controls and zoom function.

I can access the quick control menu by swiping down on the touchscreen. From there, I was able to access various settings like for system, tracking, gestures, filters, etc.
The screen is tiny but not to the point you have to squint your eyes to view the whole frame. I found it bright enough and I didn’t have viewing it when I shoot outdoors.
The Camera

The camera of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 supports 4K resolution and 240fps of video recording. With a new 1-inch CMOS sensor, it can produce improvements to its image quality especially in low-lighted areas. I mentioned about its zoom function which supports 2x lossless zoom while on 4K. I’m glad it also worked for 3K in portrait mode which I use for recording short videos. If you go lower to Full HD, it goes up to 4x lossless zoom.
Most creators nowadays record on 4K and we know this takes a lot of space. Thankfully, DJI finally decided to include storage with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4. Does 107GB sound good for you? Maybe, maybe not, but at least it has built-in storage. It can accommodate a Micro SD card up to 1TB so you can record more content.

The new ActiveTrack 7.0 is a godsend. It was able to track my subject within my frame even while I was moving. What made my life even easier is the subject lock tracking which the Osmo Pocket 4’s camera automatically moves to record my subject.
I used to have a love/hate relationship with gimbals before which made me hesitant to try out the earlier Osmo Pocket models. With the Osmo Pocket 4, the gimbal was really smooth to use. Some of the videos turned out to look like they were taken by a professional. I found it easier to use than the combination of my iPhone 17 Pro Max and the DJI Osmo Pocket 7P.

DR’S CONCLUSION

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 opened my eyes that this tiny camera with a gimbal has the capability of creating videos that looked like it was produced by a small production crew. What I really loved about it during my review period is its size – I can easily pull it out from my pocket, record a few videos then slide it back.
Would I get one? Most probably. There are some scenarios where I can use the Osmo Pocket 4 solely for taking short videos for TikTok, Instagram Stories, etc. I see it as part of my gear, along with my iPhone 17 Pro Max and a Sony mirrorless camera.
Users of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 say the Pocket 4 only had minimal upgrades, and I agree with them. Personally, if I were to buy one, I would still prefer the Pocket 4 because those small upgrades are still considered plus points for me. Oh, and I still want that 107GB internal storage because I’d rather have one than none at all.
