The Xiaomi Mi9 is now official and released, as well as Xiaomi’s 5G-upgraded Mi MIX 3. Both touting Qualcomm’s latest octacore Snapdragon 855 SoC, Xiaomi has thrown in some impressive new features in its latest flagship and iconic notch-less slider.
XIAOMI MI MIX 3 5G
Xiaomi joins the 5G club with its first 5G-ready smartphone, the Mi MIX 3 5G. Now powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 modem, the popular Mi MIX 3 is ready to push the envelope further with its transformative 5G capabilities.

Now with 5G capabilities courtesy of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 5G modem, the Mi MIX 3 can achieve tens of times faster speeds than current 4G networks by connecting to sub-6GHz signals with gigabit-class download speeds.
Aside from next-gen connectivity, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 also gives the Mi MIX 3 next-gen flagship performance. Built on the latest 7nm process, the Snapdragon 855 has eight Kryo 485 cores for a balance of performance and power efficiency. Compared to the previous Snapdragon 845, single core performance is up by up to 45%. The Adreno 640 GPU meanwhile sees up to 20% increased performance from the previous gen.
XIAOMI MI9
Powered by the same SoC, the Xiaomi Mi9 also makes its debut. It features a stylish all-curved back with a unique holographic rainbow spectrum color. The all-curved design was designed by famed architect Antoni Gaudi and certified by the Gaudi Academia of Knowledge.
The Mi9 also has a 6.39″ 19.5:9 Samsung AMOLED Dot Drop display. Like the Mi 8 Pro before it, the Mi 9 also has an in-screen fingerprint sensor which is 25% faster than the previous gen.
The Mi9 is Xiaomi’s first flagship to use its AI triple camera setup with a 48 MP Sony IMX586 1/2″ sensor. This is the same sensor found on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. The high pixel count is not only useful for very detailed photos, but the Mi 9 can also combine four pixels to one in order to capture more light.
Joining the 48 MP sensor is a 16 MP ultra wide-angle camera, and a 12 MP telephoto camera. With this triple camera setup, the Mi 9 achieved a score of 107 on the DxOMark website, the second highest score among all which have been tested. The Mi 9 also got a video score of 99, making it number one for video capture.
Xiaomi has also equipped the Mi9 with some powerful charging solutions. The Mi 9 and its 3,300 mAh battery can be topped up to 70% in 30 minutes and 100% in 60 minutes using 27W wired charging supporting Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+. Using the 20W version of the Mi Wireless Charging Pad, the Mi 9 can be fully charged in just 90 minutes.
XIAOMI MI LED SMART BULB
Also announced were Xiaomi’s Mi LED Smart Bulb. These bulbs are capable of 16 million stunning colors and users can adjust the color temperature, brightness, and other smart functions remotely using the Mi Home app. They’re also Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatible, with Apple Home Kit support coming in Q2 2019.
