We finally had the chance to review the latest HUAWEI’s flagship smartphone lineup, the Pura P80 series. Last August 7, 2025, we attended their launch event at the BGC Art Center, where I was especially impressed by the camera features showcased in their experience zones. The highlight was the Pura 80 Ultra with its innovative switchable dual telephoto camera. This time, however, we got our hands on the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro, which sits just below the Ultra. In this review, we’ll find out if the Pura 80 Pro is worth considering as your next smartphone.

The Design

The HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro doesn’t introduce major changes in terms of design. It still features a glass back panel with the rear cameras housed on a curved triangular module that holds a triple camera setup. The unit we have comes in Glazed White, while other available options include Glazed Black and the newest addition to the series, Glazed Red.
For the display, it uses the 2nd Generation Kunlun Glass, which provides better protection against accidental drops and scratches. The phone also improves its durability with an upgraded IP68 and IP69 rating for water and dust resistance.
On the right side, you’ll find the volume rocker and the power button that also serves as a fingerprint scanner. HUAWEI decided to move away from the under-display scanner used in previous Pura models. While the reason is unclear, the side-mounted scanner is quick and responsive. It also offers extra functionality since a double tap can be customized to launch shortcuts such as the camera, flashlight, recorder, or instant apps.
At the bottom, the Pura 80 Pro has a speaker grille, USB Type-C port, microphone, and SIM tray that supports either dual SIM cards or an eSIM. On the top, you’ll find another speaker grille and microphone.
The Display and Speakers

The HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro comes with a 6.8-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display that reaches a peak brightness of 3000 nits. Based on our experience, the screen remains clearly visible even under direct sunlight. Watching content on this display is a pleasure thanks to its vibrant colors and deep blacks, which make movies and videos more immersive.
The phone is also equipped with dual stereo speakers that deliver clear and balanced audio. Even at maximum volume, the sound quality holds up well without distortion. We especially enjoyed listening to music on it.
The Performance

Inside the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro is the Kirin 9020, HUAWEI’s own in-house processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This model does not come with other storage configurations.
Here are the benchmark results we got with the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro:

The device runs on EMUI 15, which feels similar to most Android smartphones but comes with a few extra features unique to HUAWEI. Unfortunately, it also includes some pre-installed bloatware. While a number of these can be uninstalled, others cannot.
In daily use, the Pura 80 Pro feels much like a regular Android device. As expected, the Google Play Store is not available out of the box, but you can install apps through GBox. We wrote about GBox two years ago, and we’re glad to see that it has improved significantly since then. Although you may still encounter occasional issues, the overall experience is much smoother compared to before.
When it comes to gaming, the Pura 80 Pro handles most titles with ease. Demanding games like Genshin Impact run smoothly on Medium settings, and even when pushed to High, the phone is still capable of delivering a good gaming experience.
One limitation, however, is its network capability. The Pura 80 Pro only supports 4G LTE and does not have 5G due to the restrictions imposed on HUAWEI by the U.S. government. This is also why the phone relies on its own chipset, which is not as fast as today’s top flagship processors. Still, despite these setbacks, the device delivers decent overall performance.
The Camera

The HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro is equipped with a triple rear camera system consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom that can extend up to 100x digital zoom, and a 40-megapixel ultrawide lens. On the front, it has a 13-megapixel selfie camera. By default, photos from the rear cameras are pixel-binned to 12.5 megapixels, while the full resolution can be used when switching to High-Res mode.
HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro – Rear Cameras HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro – Front Camera The real highlight of the Pura 80 Pro is its main camera. Thanks to its large 1-inch sensor, it produces vibrant and detailed shots with excellent sharpness. Even in low-light conditions, it delivers impressive results. However, when using the Master AI feature, you may notice aggressive smoothing in some shots. The good thing is that this can easily be turned off if you prefer more natural results.
Another noteworthy feature is Moving Picture mode, which captures fast-moving subjects with ease. This will definitely appeal to those who enjoy shooting action scenes, sports events, or even playful pets that never stay still. Unlike other so-called “extra” features, this one feels practical and genuinely useful.
For video, the Pura 80 Pro supports 4K recording at 60fps on both the rear and front cameras. It also offers slow-motion recording at up to 960fps in 1080p resolution, giving you plenty of creative options.
The Battery
The HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro is powered by a 5170mAh battery, which can easily last a full day of heavy use. In our experience, even with video recording, photography, gaming, browsing, and social media, it managed to keep up without running out of juice after a day of use. When it comes to charging, it doesn’t disappoint either. With HUAWEI SuperCharge, the phone supports up to 100W wired charging, allowing you to fully charge in no time. For wireless charging, using the HUAWEI SuperCharge Wireless Charger Stand which is sold separately, it can go up to an impressive 80W, which is incredibly fast for wireless technology.
HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro Verdict

Despite the restrictions imposed on HUAWEI by the U.S., the Pura 80 Pro still delivers flagship-level features, especially in terms of its camera performance. While the lack of Google Play Store and 5G connectivity may be a drawback, there are reliable workarounds for app access, and the overall experience remains solid.
If you value top-notch smartphone photography and can live with its compromises, the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro is an excellent choice.
