Huawei Y6p VS realme C3: Who Reigns as Entry-Level Champion?

Both under PHP 6,000, both lauded as entry-level kings, which of them truly conquers all? This 2020 we’re getting huge smartphone competitors for the entry-level market from Huawei with their Y6p and Realme’s C3. We’ll be battling them out in all categories from display to cameras to the overall experience. The Huawei Y6p is definitely a big-shot in its range with Huawei’s camera expertise. On the other hand, realme’s a veteran in making cost-effective entry-level smartphones. The Huawei Y6p vs realme C3 comparison is now ON! Let’s compare them in categories one by one.

DISPLAY – HUAWEI Y6P VS REALME C3

The Huawei Y6p sports a 6.3” HD+ display while the Realme C3 has a bigger screen of 6.5” HD+. As budget phones, their displays are nothing really special but they’re still pretty sizeable and give a wide viewing scene. Despite the Realme C3 having the larger display, on screen-to-body ratio the Huawei Y6p has a better percentage.

The Realme C3 has an 82.73% ratio and the Huawei Y6p gets an 88.4%. Both are still on a waterdrop display so generally, the bezels on the two are quite thick. It’s just that the bezels on the Y6p may be a little slimmer than the C3. However, the C3 does have Gorilla Glass 3 so for what its worth, durability is a better compromise. They both have the same resolution of 720×1600 pixels and roughly same ppi density, the Y6p at 278 and the C3 at 270.

LOOKS AND FEEL – HUAWEI Y6P VS REALME C3

The two smartphones are advertised to be slim for their prices. They’re both 9mm-thin easy on the hands. The Realme C3 is a little heavier though at 195g given its big size than the Huawei Y6p at 185g.

On feel, the Huawei Y6p leans on the glossier side of the array while the Realme C3 is more on matte. This is entirely subject of course on experience, but it’s pretty noteworthy to say. The Realme C3 has an advantage of being smudge-free and splash resistant. Meanwhile, the Huawei Y6p does have a matte finish on the frame but isn’t as fingerprint-resistant at the back. A point to consider before purchasing.

CHIPSET – HUAWEI Y6P VS REALME C3

Both equip MediaTek SoCs. The Realme C3 runs on the Helio G70 and the Huawei Y6p on a modified Helio p22, MT6762R Helio P22. Now, on performance, while both octa-core, the Helio G70 just leaves the modified Helio P22 in the dust. Superior technology is superior.

On Antutu marks, our review with the Realme C3 of 178,358 and to compare with the Y6p’s we saw that Kimovil’s benchmark got approximately 95,000. Now while we haven’t had our hands personally on the Y6p, this performance would reflect on possible games to run on the smartphone. The Mediatek Helio G70 debuted with the Realme C3 so this performances running on the SoC is unprecedented on other smartphones.

That means chances of a smoother gameplay and smarter workflow leans on the Realme C3, heavily. The Realme runs on the Realme UI and the Y6p on the EMUI 10.1 sans Google Play. The two are based on the Android 10.

CAMERAS – HUAWEI Y6P VS REALME C3

Again, Huawei may have the upper hand on cameras given their technology. To start, the Huawei Y6p has daunting triple cameras that includes an ultra-wide angle lens. This is where the Realme C3 may fall a little flat despite the superior processor.

Both smartphones employ triple rear cameras. The Realme C3’s main shooter is on 12MP and the remaining lenses are a 2MP portrait and macro. These still shoot decent shots, as evidence of our personally taken pics for our review. However, the Huawei Y6p truly have more sophisticated lenses with a 13 MP main followed up with a 5MP ultra-wide angle and 2MP depth sensors.

However, the picture quality still boils down to side by side examples. But on paper, the Y6p already has several advantages. For one, the Huawei Y6p can give more flexible shots with a dedicated ultra-wide angle sensor. Plus, how a depth sensor performs on a budget smartphone is really interesting to see.

The Huawei Y6p’s front camera is also a little better at 8MP than the Realme C3’s 5MP. It may be an overstatement to say the Y6p trumps the C3 on cameras, but it’s definitely the clear winner.

OTHER FEATURES: BATTERY, CONNECTIVITY, SECURITY

Memorably, these two smartphones have a massive 5,000 mAh battery. Both have 10W charging, with the Realme C3 also capable of reverse charging.

The connectivity for the two are somewhat the same with WIFI connection, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE, FM Radio, and the likes. They charge by standard USB 2.0 and have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

They’re also with face unlock and rear fingerprint sensors so unlocking shouldn’t be too different between the two.

MEMORY AND PRICES – HUAWEI Y6P VS REALME C3

The Huawei Y6p is available with 4GB RAM + 64GB (512GB expandable via microSD) and the Realme C3 with 3GB + 32GB (256GB expandable via microSD) both for PHP 5,990. Noticeably, the Realme C3 is a lot smaller in memory and RAM. This is also another factor to take in regarding long-term performance.

CONCLUSION

Both the Huawei Y6p and Realme C3 are undoubtedly amazing especially for the budget category. The two offer specs that challenge how high it can go for such a cheap price.

We can recap it all quickly. On categories, display and chipset, the Realme C3 definitely wins. The Helio G70 really is a game-changer. However we see on cameras and memory space, the Huawei Y6p is definitely the champ. Ultra-wide angle lens, sign me up! Basically what these ratings conclude is that each smartphone has its own expertise.

The Realme C3 is a champion for those who would like to game. Its chipset makes running a multitude of games decently possible. The Huawei Y6p on the other hand is for the camera-frenzy crowd. Decent shots paired with a vast memory to keep it all safe.

All in all, the two are stellar in the price category. Preferences between the two would be entirely up to you. After all, to each their own.
