With a powerful processor ensuring blazing-fast performance and lightning-fast charging to keep you powered up and ready to go, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is not just keeping up with the times. Will it set the pace for the future of smartphones?

What’s in the Box?

HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro Box

The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is presented in a minimalistic white box. Upon opening, you’ll find a user-friendly SIM ejector pin included. The package is further enhanced with accessories, including a high-powered 100W charging adapter, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, and a silicone case, ensuring a comprehensive and convenient experience for users.

Its Appearance

While the Huawei P series has traditionally focused on photography, the new Pura series, inspired by “Purity,” promises to reveal “unseen wonders with bold imaginations” and to “lead in fashion sense” with its distinctive style. The camera setup adopts a triangle formation known as the “Forward Symbol Design,” inspired by the Penrose Triangle, symbolizing the “purest form of impossibility” and striving to make the impossible possible.

Despite the sizable camera island, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is simply stunning in addition to its curved sides, giving you a comfortable and secured grip as the phone feels well-balanced. The Pura 70 Pro showcases a sleek matte texture in black – the color variant which we have on hand. It also comes in a white color variant. While it may not sit at the top of its series, it still exudes a premium elegance that feels delightful to hold.

Located on its right side is its volume buttons and power button. At its bottom, it is equipped with two stereo speakers, its charging port, microphone hole and its dual SIM card slot.

Its Display and Features

The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro features a 6.8-inch FHD+ LTPO OLED panel with 2844 x 1260 screen resolution and a 120Hz adaptive high dynamic refresh rate at its core. It has 2500nits peak brightness and 460 pixel per inch. It is also packed with 1440 Hz high frequency PWM dimming and has up to 300 Hz touch sampling rate.

Also, the panel boasts a slight curve and is safeguarded by second-generation Kunlun Glass, known for its enhanced durability that is upgraded compared to its predecessor. Numerous tests were conducted as HUAWEI ensures the product meets high standards of flagship quality.

With these features, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro boasts exceptional brightness, making it perfect for outdoor use and photography in sunny conditions. Moreover, its screen delivers remarkable contrast, deep black levels, and outstanding color reproduction, making it truly stunning.

We had the chance to watch some videos on Netflix and Youtube, and I must say, it’s one of the best displays I’ve experienced on a smartphone. The colors are incredibly vivid, and the blacks are impressively deep. Moreover, the colors are quite accurate, which enhances the viewing experience for all the content captured on this phone.

Bring you the best won’t only be about the display—the audio quality is also exceptional. With a dual stereo speaker setup, the sound is amazing. The speakers produce clear sounds with an impressive sound stage for a smartphone. Additionally, they can get quite loud without any distortion even at maximum volume.

This combination of an excellent display and speakers makes for an outstanding video-watching experience. Coupled with the 120Hz refresh rate, animations are smooth and fluid throughout.

The Pura 70 Pro also boasts an IP68 certification, ensuring its protection against dust and accidental drops in water, whether it’s the pool or bathtub. Moreover, you can confidently use it in the rain without the need for any extra protection.

The HUAWEI AppGallery

Some may have concerns about the absence of the Google Play Store. However, exploring the HUAWEI AppGallery eased the worries as you could easily download essential applications and other common apps that you need. Google Apps can function well in the HUAWEI AppGallery such as its Google Chrome, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Play and others that you use for work or entertainment. It allows you to continue seamlessly with your usual tasks using these apps easily and with safety.

Its Performance

The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is powered by the company’s own Kirin 9010 chipset. The unit we have comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. There is no option to expand storage even further though, and you can easily go through that when you capture content on this phone.

In the few days that I’ve been using the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro, it’s proven itself that it can also handle itself on various games with ease, ranging from casual titles like Mobile Legends to more demanding ones such as Genshin Impact with occasional stuttering but can be set to low for better gameplay. Playing low-demanding games like Mobile Legends is smooth at optimal use of graphic settings.

Here are some benchmark results of the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro.

Its Cameras

One of the standout features of the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro, much like its predecessor, is its impressive camera system. Taking center stage is the 50-megapixel Ultra Lightning Camera (with an aperture range of F1.4 to F4.0 and OIS) for the main camera. This allows for precise control over the amount of light entering the lens and the depth of field, particularly beneficial for portrait shots. Additionally, there’s a dedicated 48-megapixel Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera (with an aperture of F2.1 and OIS) and a 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle camera (with an aperture of F2.2), all supported by the XMAGE imaging system. For selfies, the device features a 13-megapixel punch-hole camera with autofocus.

If you were already impressed by the cameras of the P60 Pro last year, you’ll definitely enjoy the ones on the Pura 70 Pro. I was certainly impressed. You are able to take exceptionally detailed and sharp photos all around and very accurate colors at its finest textures. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrates excellent low-light performance that translates minimal noise to ensure crisp and clear images even in dimly lit environments. Even up to 10X zoom, you are still able to get some really great photos.

Its portrait mode is indeed impressive as it delivers stunning results. It offers great details and natural-looking bokeh effect that further enhances portraiture which creates a professional aesthetic.

Another standout feature is its “Snapshot” function, which instills confidence in capturing fleeting moments with remarkable detail. Whether you’re aiming to freeze the action of a speeding car or capture other fast-paced scenes, the “Snapshot” feature ensures you don’t miss those precious split seconds.

And lastly, one of my favorites is its macro mode, which allows you to see what’s hidden and invisible to the naked eye. The camera reveals intricate details in close-up shots, perfect for capturing the beauty of nature or the fine details in small objects.

Additionally, it excels in capturing selfie shots. The front-facing camera delivers exceptional detail and clarity in your self-portraits.

When filming video, the experience is comparable. The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro offers the capability to record at 4K@60FPS, enabling you to produce high-quality videos. Regardless of the time of day, the resulting video is impressively clear and sharp. Although stabilization is available, it’s limited to a maximum of 1080P@60FPS.

The Battery

The Pura 70 Pro boasts a robust 5050mAh battery and offers rapid charging capabilities, supporting up to 100W for wired super-fast charging and 80W for wireless charging. During our actual charging test, the battery went from 0% to 100% in just under 30 minutes—an impressive feat.

With such quick charging, the device can easily last the entire day, making it a highly anticipated feature for individuals with busy schedules who have limited time to charge their smartphones.
