The Design

Having the same overall design as we saw last year with the HUAWEI MateBook D 14 BE, it still has a bigger chassis to accommodate the 16-inch display. Even though it is now bigger, it remains portable with only a 17mm thin body and an overall weight of 1.68kg which is impressive.

With more space available, they can now fit a keyboard with white backlighting and a numpad. However, the arrow keys for up and down are small. Additionally, the trackpad is small; hopefully, next time they make it larger since there is plenty of space left to accommodate a larger trackpad.

The experience using the keyboard offers a good tactile feel, providing a satisfying typing experience. The touchpad is smooth to glide your fingertip over and is responsive.

Powering on the laptop is done with the power button placed in the upper right corner of the keyboard, which also houses a fingerprint sensor to unlock your laptop with your fingertip.

The ports available for the MateBook D 16 are a letdown, as there are only USB Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI port, and audio jack on the left side, and on the right side, there is only one USB 2.0 port. There is no more ethernet port, and there is one less USB port compared to the D 14 BE from last year.

As for the webcam, there is a 720p webcam with an indicator light that turns on to notify you when the webcam is in use. The quality is decent for your online meetings.

The Display and Speaker

20240213 123201

The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 2024 still features a 16-inch 60Hz IPS display with an aspect ratio of 16:10, resulting in a display resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a maximum brightness of 300 nits.

The display quality is excellent; being an IPS panel, you will not experience any problems when viewing from any angle, as it offers a viewing angle of 178°. In terms of colors, you will surely enjoy watching your content, as it delivers a vibrant display.

Regarding with the speakers, there are two downward-firing speakers positioned underneath the laptop. They sound decent and provide sufficient volume for casual listening.

The Performance

20240213 075906

As stated, our HUAWEI MateBook D 16 2024 comes with the Intel Core i9-13900H paired with an Intel Iris Xe graphics. We have the RAM and storage configuration of 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage.

Throughout the review, we didn’t experience any need for more power with the tasks we threw at the laptop. It effortlessly breezed through the tasks we assigned to it, even when handling multiple open tabs and performing graphic or video editing smoothly.

While it is not a gaming laptop, it features Intel Iris Xe graphics, providing you with the option to play some games on the laptop. It can handle esports titles, casual games, or mobile games that have been ported to PC. However, don’t expect to play AAA games on it.

Here are the benchmark scores from the HUAWEI MateBook D 16 2024.

As expected from this thin laptop housing an extremely powerful processor, its temperature readings with HWMonitor are high, reaching 100°C during our usage, with the lowest recorded at 39°C. Despite this, the palm area doesn’t feel too hot to the touch, but the keyboard does become quite warm, although still bearable for typing.

The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 still comes with the HUAWEI Superhub and Super Devices, offering a seamless synchronization experience with your HUAWEI devices. You can effortlessly store and share files across devices, providing great convenience and efficiency with your workload. Additionally, there is Multi-device collaboration, offering faster access to your devices. Lastly, the HUAWEI Metaline Antenna provides you with an SGS Five-star Wi-Fi experience over any connection, ensuring that whether you’re hustling at the office or relaxing at home, you stay connected and productive.

The Battery

The battery capacity of the HUAWEI MateBook D 16 is 70 Wh. During our YouTube playback test, it lasted 8 hours and 56 minutes with 50% screen brightness, which is a fair score. However, with normal usage, the laptop lasted even longer.

When charging, there is an included 65W HUAWEI SuperCharge which can charge your laptop via USB Type-C.
