ASRock Adds Support for One Sub-Channel DRAM Module (HUDIMM) on Intel DDR5 Motherboards

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – April 17th, 2026 – ASRock® recently announced that its Intel 600/700/800 motherboard series now support DDR5 “One sub-channel (1*32-bit)” HUDIMM (Heterogeneuos UDIMMs) module.

“We’ve noticed the strong demand for affordable DDR5 modules, with this patent pending technology, it will bring flexibility and affordable cost for global system integrators, we are also cooperating with DRAM manufacture to bring more One sub-channel HUDIMM module to the market.” Said Chris Lee, Vice President of ASRock motherboard and gaming monitor business unit.

“Innovations like ASRock’s One sub-channel DRAM technology are crucial to ensuring desktop computing remains accessible despite the rising demand and costs for DDR5 memory. Intel’s grateful for ASRock’s support in bringing this to market for our 600/700/800-series chipsets, ensuring Intel users have more access to the benefits of DDR5 memory in the years ahead.” Said Robert Hallock, Vice President and General Manager for Intel’s Enthusiast Channel Segment business unit.

Standard DDR5 DRAM uses “Two sub-channel (2*32-bit)” architecture which is beneficial for high-capacity single DIMM module however it is not so practical for current PC market. By supporting “One sub-channel (1*32-bit)”, user is able to build affordable system with ASRock 600/700/800 motherboards.

[Editor's Note: One Sub Channel DIMMs reduces the lanes used by the motherboard, which allows cheaper DDR5 DIMMs to be manufactured and sold. Now on Intel systems the Integrated Memory Controller allows for either setup (given a BIOS update). But of course, using just one HUDIMM does bring the problem of higher latency/performance drop due to one sub channel running. However, the next part will show some flexibility with the update.]

“It’s a privilege to co-develop One sub-channel DRAM module with ASRock, this patent pending technology can half the chip quantity on RAM stick therefore reduces cost, hoping to satisfy the strong demand for DRAM modules.” Said Gerry Chen, General Manager of TEAMGROUP.

HUDIMM Result

Supporting One sub-channel module also opens up the possibility for multiple DRAM combination with better performance and lower latency, on H610M COMBOII, the bandwidth for 8GB (1*32-bit) + 16GB (2*32-bit) is higher than single 24GB (2*32-bit) DRAM module.

Besides ASRock motherboards, DeskMini can also support One sub-channel module in HSODIMM DDR5 form factor, giving all around support for this new technology.
