One afternoon, I decided to spend the whole afternoon with my daughter. We weren’t able to bond last Christmas, and that day was a good time for us to go out. She was dismissed early from school, and we met at the nearby Glorietta Mall. She said she wasn’t hungry, but after tempting her with her favorite salad wrap, she smiled and gave in to my offer.
Tap to Pay with Google Pay and Maya Black
We went to the salad store located outside the mall. It was not only her favorite salad store, but also the favorite of her mom and younger sister. Once in a while, they would ask me to buy salad wraps as take-away so they can eat them for dinner or lunch the day after. My daughter went ahead and ordered her favorite Ceasar Salad Wrap. I was about to pay with cash when I realized I had left my wallet in my car.
Then I remembered I already linked my Maya Black Credit Card to my Google Wallet, and I can use it to pay for my order. I whipped out my smartphone and used Google Pay’s tap-to-pay feature on the store’s POS Card Terminal. Voila! Transaction successful! My daughter was like, “Whoa, dad! That’s so cool!”
After my daughter finished her salad wrap, we walked to another store to buy her a new pair of slacks. Our walk was cut short when I found a store that sells a few beachwear needed for my Cebu trip the next day. We checked out a few linen polos, and after trying out the one I liked, I decided to go ahead and purchase it.
Again, I brought out my Android smartphone and tapped the retail outlet’s card terminal, made possible by Google’s Tap to Pay using Maya Black. There were other clothes on discount, but I reckon to come back for them on my next visit. On to the next retail store!
My daughter needed a new pair of slacks for her job immersion required by her Senior High School. She’s under the ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management) Strand and her goal is to be a successful entrepreneur in the future. The company she’s going to work for is a foundation of one of the country’s known families, and I wanted her to look good during her immersion there.
After trying out a few pairs with me, saying ‘no’ several times, we finally found a pair that truly fits her. I told her to find a blouse that would go well with her slacks. She did pick one, but it gave me mixed reactions. We called her mom in Sydney, and after deliberating for a few minutes she eventually disapproved. My daughter was supposed to pay for her slacks, but I told her that I will pay for it. Besides, paying with Maya Black lets me earn Miles with every 40 Pesos spent. Also, Google’s Tap to Pay is faster and more convenient than paying via QR codes.
I had some work to do and so did my daughter, so we went to a coffee shop downstairs. They serve good, affordable coffee and pastries, like ham and cheese croissant and ensaymadas. The area was spacious and not filled with obnoxious, loud customers. This is why it’s our favorite place to hang.
I ordered Mocha and ensaymada, then proceeded to make the payment. I advised the cashier that I’ll just use my phone to pay. He said he never witnessed it work before, so it was an opportunity for me to show it to him. He was in awe of the payment I made using the Tap to Pay feature as it only took a few seconds to transact!
Before we went home, we had dinner at a Hong-Kong based restaurant. Last time I’ve eaten there was a year ago, I think. I ordered Pork Chop with Yang Chow Fried Rice, Steamed Pork Spareribs with Black Bean Sauce and Hakaw.
We had to eat quickly because I had some work to do at home and also had to pack for my out-of-town trip the next day. And because the Tap to Pay feature makes it really fast and easy to charge, we were able to leave the restaurant immediately.
