iPhone 17 Series Now Official!

Everything that we’ve heard and images of the rumored iPhone 17 series since last year finally became official today. The new iPhone 17 series were officially announced today, including the iPhone Air which was already being talked about last year when the iPhone 16 series was launched.

These are the new iPhones everybody’s anticipating:

From the looks of it, the iPhone 17 hasn’t changed its design from the iPhone 16, but as expected the internals were definitely upgraded. For the first time in years, screen size has been bumped from the usual 6.1″ to 6.3″, which means the newer iPhone has slightly bigger dimensions compared to the previous model. Its Super Retina XDR Display reaches up to 3,000 nits peak brightness on outdoors and now includes ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. The display is protected with Durable Ceramic Shield 2 with 3x better scratch resistance.

The iPhone 17 comes with the latest A19 chip. Based on the comparisons, everything seems to be the same except for the GPU has a faster neural processing. Apple claims the iPhone 17 can play up to 30 hours of video playback and 27 hours of streamed video. We don’t have information about its battery rating, but according to the Apple Store the iPhone 17 can be charged up to 50% in 20 minutes with a 40W charger.

The cameras on the iPhone 17 now comes with a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system and an 18MP Center Stage Front Camera which gives users flexible ways to take their selfies or groufies.

iPhone Air

The newest kid in the iPhone series, the iPhone Air is Apple’s slimmest phone they’ve ever released. The internet was abuzz about this rumor last year, and now that it’s here, we are expecting that there will be potential users of this phone who prefer this kind of form factor. We noticed that the iPhone 17 Plus was not included so we reckon this could be a better alternative.

Display of the iPhone Air is a 6.5″ display with ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. This super thin iPhone measures at 5.6mm thick, which makes everybody wonder (or worry) if it could easily break. According to Apple, the Air has a titanium frame and covered with Ceramic Shield on both sides, which makes it durable. And because it is called an Air, it only weighs 165g, the lightest among the new iPhones.

The iPhone Air under the hood comes with an A19 Pro chipset. The difference between the A19 and the Pro is its able to give users faster AI workloads. From what we’ve researched, the Air doesn’t really have a 6-core GPU, only 5. With regards to battery life, Apple said the Air can reach up to 27 hours of video playback – 3 hours lower than the iPhone 17. It is quite obvious that Apple has to sacrifice its battery capacity to make the phone the slimmest in the series, and we reckon that they’re relying on iOS 26 to stretch the juice of the Air up to a day’s worth of usage. We’ll find out once it gets released.

Among the new iPhone series, the iPhone AIr only has one camera on the rear. Its a 48MP Fusion Main Camera that could probably suffice for those users who don’t need a wide-angle or a telephoto lens. At the front an 18MP Center Stage Camera.

Available colors of the iPhone Air are Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White and Space Black.

iPhone Air prices start at P72,990. No information about its availability in the Philippines yet.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

The flagships iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max finally had a makeover since the iPhone 11 Pro series was launched several years ago. Apple calls the its new camera layout “plateau” which is a design shift from the familiar square bump. We’re not sure if Apple fans like the new Cosmic Orange color, but we like it since orange is one of our favorite colors. Instead of using Titanium, the 17 Pro and Pro Max were made with Aluminum Unibody which Apple says is optimized for performance and battery.

Screen size remains the same for both Pro and the Pro Max at 6.3″ and 6.9″ respectively. Both are on Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion Technology. Like the iPad Air, the both models are covered with Ceramic Shield 2 at the front and Ceramic Shield at the back. They both use the new A19 Pro processor with, finally, a vapor chamber! Apple claims the new chipset is 40% faster than the previous Pro chip. The 17 Pro can reach up to 31 hours of video playback while the 17 Pro Max is up to 37 hours.
