Huawei to bypass U.S. restrictions by rebranding to support 5G

We recently published an article about Wiko receiving a license to release Huawei-developed smartphones. According to Phonearena, this is a way for Huawei to bypass the effects of U.S. sanctions that prevent the company from using American technology, even if it is designed by Huawei itself. As a result of these sanctions, Huawei can only offer 4G smartphones.

As a quick introduction for people who don’t know Wiko, it is a mobile phone brand that originated in France and has been successful in the European market since 2011. In June 2022, Wiko entered the Philippine market.

Rebranding Huawei Nova 9 SE as their own is how Wiko makes the deal offering it to the market as Wiko 5G. By doing this, they will be able to use the latest chipset that Huawei doesn’t have any access to. The current processor of the Huawei Nova 9 SE is a Snapdragon 680 4G, but with Wiko, it will be utilizing the Snapdragon 695 which has 5G support and an Adreno 619 graphics processor. It will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage that runs on the HarmonyOS operating system.

Other specifications of the Wiko 5G include a 6.78-inch 120Hz high-refresh screen and four rear cameras: a 108-megapixel main camera with a Samsung HM2 sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide secondary camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On its front is a 16-megapixel camera that is located in a punch-hole cutout in the center.

Also, the Wiko 5G has a 4000mAh battery that supports up to 66W of wired charging and is capable of reverse charging. According to its advertisement, it can charge up to 60% in 15 minutes and 100% in 35 minutes.
