OnePlus 8, 8 Lite and 8 Pro Leaks and Predictions

OnePlus isn’t slowing down from their throttling momentum last year. With fan favorite mid range OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, we’re anticipating a lot from the 2020 OnePlus 8. So what can we expect from these makers?

Here’s what we’re sure of:

It’s been explicitly confirmed by OnePlus that the coming OnePlus 8 series will all get 120 Hz display refresh rates. In a year’s worth of upgrades OnePlus upscaled from the previous 90Hz display in the OnePlus 7 series. Plus, the displays come from Samsung!

It’s also been confirmed by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau the OnePlus 8 series is 5G. Wireless charging’s also coming for the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 however we’re unsure of how much.

What we’re kinda sure of:

The new series will be called OnePlus 8. This has not been confirmed but there haven’t been any news of OnePlus changing their naming scheme.

Due to the consistent history of OnePlus getting the Qualcomm chipset every year, the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 should get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. The AMOLED displays’ are also rumored to reach 1000 nits brightness. Wireless charging is highly likely with the two as well!

There will be three releases this time for this family with the OnePlus; the top end OnePlus 8 Pro, the mid-range OnePlus 8, and the budget OnePlus 8 Lite. OnePlus 8 Lite’s official name may possibly change with the previous release of OnePlus X.

There have been numerous leaks for the design of this series. Reliable source @OnLeaks via partners Cash Karo and 91Mobiles has revealed theirs, so we’ve got a pretty good idea on what we’ll get.

This time, it seems OnePlus is ditching the water drop notch and is choosing instead for a punch hole cutout. That it means they’re ditching the all screen display of the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro altogether.

Except for details at the front, the OnePlus 8 Pro we feel coming isn’t all that different for the OnePlus 7T Pro. Images show minimal bezels and a chance to get that IP water/dust resistance certification. Most likely landing at 6.65 inches.

We’re not getting a headphone jack. The OnePlus 8 is a little different from predecessor OnePlus 7. We’re probably be getting three vertically- arranged rear cameras from this 6.5 inch smartphone. The buttons’ layout doesn’t stray from the usual.

We’re mostly kept in the dark about the OnePlus 8 Lite. Recent rumors say it’s at 6.4 inches. Not much is known except that if that camera layout’s true, that’s very different from what we’ve seen in this series and all current OnePlus phones.

We’re assuming battery sizes starting at 4,000 mAh while the OnePlus 8 Pro will get an upscale of 4,500 mAh.

And what we’re predicting:

It’s possible that the OnePlus 8 Pro may feature Samsung’s 108 MP sensor as its main rear camera as well as a time-of-flight sensor that sets it apart. The other two should probably feature a 64 MP and a 48 MP mains respectively if so. But other reports are saying that the two will only get 48 MP wide lenses. Other than the prototype leaks, nothing much is know for the cam capabilities of the OnePlus 8 family.

OnePlus may be riding the wireless charging trend this year. Ishaan Agarwal, reliable source, recently announced on twitter that the OnePlus Pro will be getting 30W wireless charging and 30W reverse charging. There’s no recent rumors for the charging capabilities of this series, so this happening to the other units may be unlikely, especially with the OnePlus 8 Lite.

OnePlus 8 Lite’s specs are currently shrouded in mystery. It’ll be interesting to see how OnePlus deals with balancing costs and overall performance. Ishaan Agarwal and 91mobiles say it’ll get a MediaTek 1000 SoC, but previous rumors were all about the Dimensity 1000. The two also commented that the camera cut out display for the OnePlus 8 Lite will be 90Hz.

We’re expecting this series to be announced next month, April and launched on May as per OnePlus usual. However, Ishaan Agarwal’s suggesting an early release on or around April 14. We’ll have to see how this unfolds.

OnePlus smartphones are getting more expensive so prices should start at Php 35,000 ($699) for the OnePlus 8 Pro, Php 30,000 ($599) for the OnePlus 8, and ($399) Php 20,000 for the OnePlus 8 Lite.

Stay tuned for more updates.
