I remember back in the 80s when home entertainment for us is a TV with a remote control and a Betamax player. My dad and brother would rent movies on Betamax at nearby Cash & Carry and watch them in my parents’ bedroom. Then we upgraded our TV and subscribed to a Cable TV service. The idea of just watching HBO and Star Movies was reason enough for us to stay home and enjoy movies.
For the past decade, I have used streaming devices like Roku from PLDT Home, and it gave me more options to watch TV series and movies, this time through my PLDT Home Fiber. Then, a couple of years ago, I won a PLDT Home StreamTV device at their Christmas Party.

Looks that will Upgrade your Home Entertainment
Recently, I received the new StreamTV+ from PLDT Home Life and I can’t hide my excitement. Upon opening the box, I can immediately tell that the StreamTV+ is already a premium product. I mean, just look at it—the combination of black and gray colors of the streaming device adds a touch of class in your living room. The grey area of the box is the speakers, which I will mention in a while, because this is one of the big features of the StreamTV+.
Easy Installation
Installing the device was easy. Plug the device into the TV with an HDMI cable included in the box, select the HDMI port on your TV where the other port is connected, then turn on the device with the remote control included in the package. The last two steps are to connect to your PLDT Home Fiber WiFi (StreamTV+ supports WiFi 6) or LAN cable, then download the software.
The StreamTV+ runs on Android TV OS, so if you are a first timer, you will be familiar with some of the Google apps you can download. It is already pre-installed with Netflix, HBO Max, Lionsgate Play, Vio, BlastTV and CignalTV. I logged in to Netflix since I’ve been watching a lot of their content lately. Also, my subscription includes 4K so I can enjoy watching videos in high resolution.
Booming Sound!
Okay, what happened next blew me away. The moment I opened the Netflix app, a loud “Tudum” echoed in my room. Whoa!!! Whatda??? The booming sound of Netflix’s introduction gave me a similar feeling while watching in a cinema.
What made the StreamTV+ stand out from my previous streaming devices is its sound quality. First, it has built-in Dolby Atmos Sound with three built-in speakers. Second, the speakers were tuned by Bang & Olufsen, regarded as a luxury lifestyle brand in the audio industry. The combination of these two audio giants provides immersive cinema-like sound.
I selected Top Gun as my first video to watch. Man, the jets’ engines sounded so real! It was so mesmerizing, I could feel them really blast off. Even the background music by Kenny Loggins sounded really good, which made me feel pumped for the movie.
I know the movie is like 40 years old, but visually it looked much better than the VCD and DVD copies I’ve watched in the past. I think this is related to Dolby Vision, which gives the movie a vivid look.
After watching Top Gun, I wanted to watch something more recent. As a wrestling fan, I went to WrestleMania Las Vegas.
Immersive Viewing Experience
I had been watching WWE events on cable TV since the 90s, when TVs were still years away from HD resolution. This time, watching it in 4K, supported by StreamTV+, made it more immersive. Wrestling superstars like CM Punk and Roman Reigns looked so vivid, as if they were right in front of me doing their GTS or SuperPunch finishing moves.
Since I want to use StreamTV+’s fantastic sound quality, I installed Spotify and played a few of my favorite tracks. Holy Moly! This is a LOT better than playing music from my iPhone paired with a Bluetooth speaker in my bedroom. It could also be heard clearly while I’m taking a shower. I am so ecstatic that Bang & Olufsen’s outstanding sound quality is a major deal-clincher for the StreamTV+.
I wish my parents and my brother were here to experience the premium features of the StreamTV+. Fortunately, my kids and my cats can watch their favorite shows together (for my cats, cat videos on YouTube) and enjoy visuals and sounds that match the cinema experience.
