HONOR 90 Lite 5G Unboxing and First Impressions

HONOR has been releasing new smartphones in recent months to expand its market offerings. Last month, we reviewed the HONOR 90 5G, which positioned itself as the mid-range smartphone for the brand. Today, we will be taking a look at the smartphone that will be positioned in the lower mid-range segment: the HONOR 90 Lite 5G. It is scheduled to launch on September 26, 2023, alongside two more smartphones that they will announce at the event: the HONOR X6a and the HONOR X5 Plus.

The Unboxing

The HONOR 90 Lite 5G box is similar to its bigger brother but with the Lite indicated on the upper part of the front box. Inside the box, you will find the product itself, a clear silicon case, a 22.5W charger, a USB-C to USB-A cable, a SIM ejector pin, and a user guide.

The First Impressions

Like the non-lite model, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G incorporates some of the design aspects but with a few changes. It now features a flat design instead of a curved one. Additionally, the rear camera design is somewhat unconventional, resembling a Venn Diagram, and it protrudes more than I would prefer. Nevertheless, when compared to the HONOR 70 Lite, it now looks closer to its bigger brother.

We received the Cyan Lake color variant, which bears a resemblance to the Emerald Green of the HONOR 90 5G. It boasts a sandblasted finish, making it resistant to fingerprints. Another available color variant is Midnight Black.

On the HONOR 90 Lite 5G, you will find the volume rocker and power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor on the right side. On the left side, there’s the SIM tray slot where you can insert two nano SIM cards; however, there is no microSD card slot available. At the bottom of the device, you’ll see the speaker grille, USB-C port, and a microphone hole. On the top, you can find another microphone hole.

The triple rear camera configuration consists of a 100-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. As for the front camera, it is a 16-megapixel punch-hole camera. This marks a significant improvement for the main and front cameras and a slight upgrade for the ultrawide camera.

Here are some quick sample shots we took. Expect more in our full review, which will be released on September 26.

Another significant upgrade is the display screen. It now boasts a 6.7-inch 90Hz LTPS LCD with a resolution of 1080×2388 pixels, compared to its previous model that only had a 6.5-inch 90Hz TFT LCD with a lower resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels.

Similar to the HONOR 90 5G display, it has received a TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification. This feature reduces blue light emissions, helping users reduce eye strain and fatigue.

As for the internal specifications, it now includes a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset with flagship-level memory and storage: 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM, along with 5GB of virtual RAM called HONOR RAM Turbo. It is powered by a 4500mAh battery and can be charged with the included 22.5W charger.
