vivo Y35 Unboxing and First Impressions

Digital Reg is thankful to vivo for letting us try their latest and greatest smartphones. So far, we have tested the V23 5G, the X80 which is one of their flagship phones, and the T1 5G marketed as a gaming phone. We realized we haven’t reviewed a Y-series phone in a long while. Our friends from vivo might have noticed this too so they sent us their new vivo Y35 smartphone. Here is our initial look of this entry-level smartphone.

Vivo Y35 back

After taking out the vivo Y35 from its packaging, I am amazed by its vibrant back color. We can definitely make this phone a fashion accessory due to its design. Holding the Y35 is great thanks to its boxed body and the back of it has a great matte finish. We like our Dawn Gold colorway but the Agate Black also looks appealing..

Vivo Y35 Screen

The vivo Y35 is a 6.58-inches FHD+ LCD IPS 90Hz display with a teardrop-style camera on it. It is also great for content consumption, which we owe it to its large and vibrant display. Thanks to its responsive 90Hz refresh rate, browsing our social media feed is smooth and games were more immersive.

The default setting of the refresh rate of the display is Auto-switch where the system will decide what appropriate screen refresh rate can be selected automatically. You can also force it to stick on either a 90Hz or 60Hz refresh rate. While watching some content we noticed its speakers are able to produce loud and clear audio.

As for the buttons and port, we have the volume rocker and a power button with a built-in fingerprint sensor on the right side. On the bottom part, you will find the audio jack, microphone hole, a USB Type-C Port, and a speaker grill. The SIM tray slot is located on the upper part, where it can accommodate two nano sim cards and a MicroSD card for storage expansion.

Using the phone is snappy and can handle tons of apps that are simultaneously opened. It uses a Snapdragon 680 processor and has an incredibly large ram which is 8GB ram plus an additional 8GB extended ram that converts the idle storage space into additional RAM. Out of the gate, you will not be limited to its storage capacity because vivo is generously giving us 258GB for its default configuration. In case you feel that it is not enough, you can still expand it by using a MicroSD card.

Lastly, talking about the big camera of the vivo Y35, all I can say is that it is eye-catching due to how large the space it’s taking in the rear is because of its large sensor. The main shooter of the vivo Y35 is 50 Megapixels with a 2 Megapixels Macro and 2 Megapixels dedicated bokeh camera. With regards to its selfie camera, it has a 16 MP camera.

We have taken some pictures using the vivo Y35 camera and we can say that the pictures were crisp and vibrant. Talking about the bokeh action of the vivo Y35 is pretty decent to its price point. We have not yet fully dived in with its camera capabilities, but we will definitely have them in our next article on the vivo Y35. For the meantime, here are some sample photos:
