Samsung Galaxy S5 Announced at Mobile World Congress

Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung keeps on coming up with the next best thing, and looks like this will make me get a Galaxy device again.

Sasmsung announced the Galaxy S5 earlier today in Barcelona that screams upgrade. No, this ain’t like the Samsung Galaxy S4 upgrade which wasn’t exciting at all that made me keep my Galaxy S3. If you are itching for a real upgrade, then the Samsung Galaxy S5 will make you excited.

Okay, I have used the word upgrade three times already.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the first in its series to be certified with an IP67 rating. This basically means that the Galaxy S5 is a water and dust resistant Superphone. I am always annoyed by the dust in my room and all of my devices are affected by it, but if I have a Galaxy S5, the OC in me will not make me bother to clean it up (which reminds me, I have to clean up my room.) Accidentally spilled water on the Galaxy S5, no problem! Again, it’s water resistant.

Powering the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon S800 processor by Qualcomm. Based on the tweet by Queen of Philippine tech and Yahoo! Philippines Editor Alora Guerrero, the Galaxy S5 is one fast motherf*@#%r!!!

The fingerprint scanner and heart-rate monitor were also mentioned during the event. Alright, I know what you’re thinking, Samsung copied the Apple iPhone 5s’ Touch ID. Yeah, whatever. I think it’s still better having one than entering your password or unlocking a pattern lock. I am not a fan of heart-rate monitors as I prefer the real thing used in clinics or hospitals, but it’s a nice addition nevertheless especially now that Samsung has health–related apps installed on the Galaxy S5.

Other notables of the Galaxy S5 features were the Ultra-Power saving mode, 16 Megapixel camera and a 2,800 mAh battery.

We have no idea yet about the availability here in the Philippines, but based on the release dates of the Galaxy S3 and S4 models, we may expect around May or June.
