At first it looks like a GPU, but it’s not. It is actually a SSD built for PCIe slots. The GIGABYTE AORUS RAID SSD 2TB is exactly just that. This recently launched storage product is an Add in Card (AIC) which allows us to install the card directly onto our computer’s motherboard through the PCIe slot.

Featuring four 512GB NVMe M.2 SSDs it allows for a total of 2TBs of storage. To get a total of 2TB storage, it is equipped with a RAID controller, defaulted to RAID 0 configuration. Plus, once an operating system is installed on the machine with this card, users can change the RAID configuration from RAID 0 to RAID 1 to RAID 10 for maximum flexibility. For cooling, this AIC’s ultra-thin design is only one slot high; thus, making use of the entire card’s surface for its heat-sinks and a dual ball bearing active cooling fan to push out the heat from the card.

While the latest AMD platforms (X570/TRX40) support PCIe 4.0; fret not, the AORUS RAID SSD is compatible with PCIe 3.0 slots used by Intel platforms. It can be installed on Intel X299, Z390 chipsets. To put it into perspective as to making the card compatible with PCIe 3.0, here’s GIGABTYE’s statement:

“Since higher read/write speeds on storage devices and better reliability enhance overall system performance, users often think of PCIe 4.0 as the way to go when it comes to upgrading their storage performance. However, support for PCIe 4.0 is currently only available on newer AMD platforms. There are many users without the latest AMD platforms who are looking to upgrade their storage performance without having to switch platforms so this is where the AORUS RAID SSD 2TB comes into play,” said Jackson Hsu, Director of the GIGABYTE Product Development Division.
