We recently reviewed the latest laptop from ASUS that utilizes the Snapdragon chipset which is the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507. With this new processor, ASUS and Microsoft made several AI powered applications for these laptops with dedicated NPUs (Neural Processing Unit.) In this article, we’ll explore its AI capabilities and find out if they are useful to our daily tasks0

ASUS StoryCube
The first thing you’ll see when you boot up this laptop is the StoryCube app, an AI-powered file organizer. You can select folders for photos, videos, and audio, and it organizes and categorizes them based on people and scenes. StoryCube truly offers convenience in organizing your photos and videos, which we Filipinos love to take to cherish memorable moments.
In our experience, we transferred pictures and videos from our smartphone to the laptop and selected them in the StoryCube app. At first, as expected, nothing showed up in the AI Album because the app needed time to learn the pictures and videos. It took a while to identify some faces and scenes, such as pets, group selfies, portraits, food, and so on.
It’s not a perfect system—it doesn’t always identify everything correctly. There were some mislabeled images during our trial, like pets and kids that were incorrectly categorized, and there were also pictures that couldn’t be identified.
However, all the issues we encountered were mentioned in a disclaimer. Hopefully, future updates will further improve the app. For instance, it would be beneficial if users could individually tag pictures or select faces and name them to enhance the results. Overall, we found the app useful.
ASUS Adaptive Dimming and Adaptive Lock
Another nifty feature of the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507 are its built-in AI security and privacy functions. It can dim the screen to save power and protect your private information. The system keeps the screen on when the user is attentive and dims it when the user is not. It’s also capable of waking the device when it detects that you’ve returned.
ASUS AI Noise Cancelation
We’ve already seen this feature in other ASUS laptops, so it’s not surprising to find it in this model, which is marketed as an AI laptop. You’ll experience clear communication even in noisy environments. It’s a great addition to this laptop, especially if you’re frequently in meetings.
The game changer for ASUS AI Noise Cancellation in the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507 is how it processes noise cancellation. Thanks to the Snapdragon Elite X chipset’s NPU, which consumes significantly less power compared to traditional CPUs, the noise cancellation is handled efficiently. By using the NPU instead of the CPU, the laptop saves more battery. How significant is this? According to Qualcomm’s press notes, the NPU’s power consumption is up to 5.4 times more efficient than the Core Ultra 7 processor. This is a key reason why the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507 can achieve such long battery life, thanks to the power-efficient Snapdragon chipset.
Microsoft AI Tools
With the release of the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507, Microsoft also introduced a new class of PCs powered by a Neural Processing Unit (NPU)—a specialized computer chip designed for AI-intensive processes like real-time translation and image generation, capable of performing more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS). They are calling these devices Copilot+ PCs.
Along with this, Microsoft released several features in the Windows 11 operating system that utilize the NPU chipset. According to ASUS’s product page, these features include Copilot, Recall, Live Captions, Cocreator, Windows Studio Effects, and Automatic Super Resolution. During our review period with the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507, the only feature that is not yet available was the Recall; the rest were already accessible when we received the unit.
Copilot, Live Captions, and Cocreator require an internet connection to function, while Windows Studio Effects and Automatic Super Resolution are available offline.
How can an AI-powered Laptop help you on a daily basis?
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507, powered by a Snapdragon Elite X chipset, showcases how the landscape of Windows OS is evolving, especially with Microsoft’s integration of more AI capabilities into its OS, hardware, and ASUS’s suite of apps. These changes are truly transforming how you use your laptop.
One of the most impressive aspects of this laptop is how seamlessly the AI features are integrated, enhancing both productivity and creativity. Features like real-time captioning and translation, image generation with Cocreator, and Windows Studio effects are designed to improve your experience. ASUS further enhances this with its own AI integrations, such as ASUS StoryCube, ASUS AI Noise Cancellation, ASUS Adaptive Dimming, and Adaptive Lock, which are true game changers when using the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507.
Here are some scenarios showing how the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507, or any Copilot+ PC, can enhance your daily productivity:
You start your day, organized your workstation and turned on your laptop. The first things you want to know are the schedule and tasks for the day. To know what’s in store for you that day, you opened the Copilot app and inquire details of your appointments. You can also give it instructions to help you schedule upcoming meetings. It’s like having a personal assistant in a form of a laptop.
During online video calls, if someone is speaking in another language, you can easily understand by turning on Live Caption. This feature is also useful for watching YouTube videos that do not have subtitles.
Another scenario is when you’re creating a video and need a quick illustration to integrate. You can open your paint app and use its cocreator tool to generate images based on your prompts, which you can then tweak with some doodles.
These are some of the few examples of what you can do with the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507, but the possibilities are endless, making it incredibly beneficial for your productivity.
Conclusion
With the current trend in AI, it’s nice to see that the ASUS Vivobook S 15 S5507 includes apps that utilize the NPU in the new Snapdragon Elite X chipset. These apps are useful, in my opinion, aside from the Microsoft AI tools, which often require an internet connection to fully utilize their features. Hopefully, as AI laptops and PCs become more widespread, more apps will take advantage of the NPU. The AI apps currently included by ASUS are genuinely useful and not just gimmicks.
