DJI Mic Mini 2 Review - A Must-Have Wireless Microphone for Budding Gen Z Content Creators • Digital Reg

Last year, a new DJI microphone series was introduced called the DJI Mic Mini which only weighs 10kg yes produces high-quality audio. We were able to review it and I loved it! It immediately became part of my gear especially with my DJI Osmo Mobile 7P. This year, DJI Philippines offered us to review the DJI Mic Mini 2.

A lot of Gen Zs are into content creation nowadays, with some taking it seriously to become influencers. With its style and features, the DJI Mic Mini 2 may be the perfect microphone for them. Read our review below.

The Unboxing

The DJI Mic Mini 2 box is nearly identical to the Mic Mini, but the second transmitter is now more visible.

Unboxing reveals the DJI Mic Mini 2 Charging case which houses two transmitters and one receiver, Time Series Magnetic Front Cover, two black magnetic covers, 3.5mm locking audio adapter cable, Type-C USB cable, windscreen, and magnetic clips. They are all housed in a new mini carrying pouch.

The Built and Design

What I noticed immediately is the large charging case of the DJI Mic Mini 2. I was wondering why after comparing my Mic Mini’s case to the newer version.

Apparently, the two transmitters are bigger but only weighs 11g, 1g heavier than its predecessor. It’s almost the same size of a 10 Peso coin but it is still smaller compared to the DJI Mic 3. What surprised me are the detachable magnetic clips on the Mic Mini 2’s transmitters. With this feature, the mics can allow you to adjust the microphone angle.

I have no information on the materials used for the microphones. I think they are made of plastic, which should make sense because microphones of this size should be light as possible. Instead of the usual black color, the Mic Mini 2 has a semi-transparent, frosted-looking shell that looks dope.

Now this is where I think will lure Gen Z content creators to buy this over other wireless microphones. The magnetic front covers of the transmitters are removable. Its Glaze White cover can be replaced with Obsidian Black, or you can opt for the Time Series Magnetic Front Covers created by renowned illustrator Victo Ngai. DJI collaborated with Ngai to produce 8 colorful covers based on four illustrations – Dawn, Surge, Blaze and Glimmer.

The Mic Mini 2’s receiver is the same as the Mic Mini. This means the transmitter of the Mini 2 can work with the receiver of the Mic Mini and vice versa. If you have the DJI Mic Series Mobile Receiver, it can support mixed connections with the Mic 2, Mic 3, Mic Mini and Mic Mini 2 transmitters. Great for collabs with other content creators who are also using DJI Mics.

Even without the pouch, the charging case of the Mic Mini 2 can store all the essential accessories you’ll need for vlogging.

The Performance

The DJI Mic Mini 2’s transmitter can be directly connected to your smartphone or through the receiver which can be plugged using its Type-C USB connector. I prefer the latter

I took the DJI Mic Mini 2 to one of my media coverages in the past couple of weeks. Like my Mic Mini, the Mic Mini 2 worked really well with my voice sounded crystal clear. The recording sounded the same whether I am inside or outside the venue.

I was expecting the Noise Cancellation to improve somehow but the results were almost the same as its predecessor. It was still able to capture the background noise but I wished that it could lessen a bit more. Anyway, I am not that disappointed since it was able to clearly record myself and my interviewee.

The Mic Mini 2 can be paired with other DJI Osmo devices like the Osmo Action 6, Action 5 Pro, Osmo Pocket 3, Osmo Nano and Osmo 360. I was not able to try this multi-device capability, but I believe the DJI OSMOAudio’s ecosystem that makes it one of the biggest advantages over its competitors.

DR’s Conclusion

The DJI Mic Mini 2 is ideal for both beginners and intermediate users, especially content creators who rely on a wireless microphone that can be easily brought anywhere and used right away. I love the customization feature of changing the transmitters’ front covers with colorful ones and I think young and upcoming content creators would go for it. It’s a lot more affordable too.
