The Design
The Philips 16B1P3300 is indeed a portable monitor even if it is a 15.6-inch monitor. It comes in a slim design display and it is attached to a hinged stand. The hinged stand has a superior option for its base compared to the portable monitor stands that are using folio cases. It can set your display up to a 90° tilt angle which makes your viewpoint adjustable for a pleasant experience.
The way the design of the hinge is angled on the left side. On that angled edge, you will find the power button, a headphone jack, USB type-c port, and micro HDMI port. On the back right edge, you will find the buttons where you can control the settings of the display in addition to the power port jack which is also there. Sadly, they didn’t add a speaker.
We have some difficulty in changing the OSD settings as the buttons are placed in the back making you guess when pressing the buttons. We think it is better with the way they placed the buttons making it a joystick type to control the OSD.
The experience when carrying the Philips 16B1P3300 was great. Its decent built quality and the good hinge mechanism, overall, makes it a valuable portable monitor. But, unfortunately, there is no included protective case in the box. Although, you can find a laptop sleeve for it and repurpose it as your portable case when transporting as an alternative.
The Display
The Philips 16B1P3300 is a 15.6-inch IPS display with an anti-glare coating with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 75Hz. The response time is 4ms. Based on the spec sheet of the portable monitor, it is not suitable for tasks that require accurate color reproduction as it only covers 64% of the sRGB color space. However, it is well-suited for business use, particularly when working with documents and spreadsheets.
During our experience watching contents, we noticed that the display lacks vibrancy and the colors appeared washed out. However, the contrast was decent. If you plan to use it as a portable monitor for watching content, you may want to consider other options.
If you have a laptop or desktop that produces output display via USB Type-C, you can connect the Philips 16B1P3300 using a single cable. However, if you intend to use the mini HDMI port, you will need to connect the included power adapter as well. It can also be used with smartphones or tablets that support display output through their USB Type-C port, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, as we tested it. However, in such cases, the power adapter is required for it to function properly.
