The Unboxing
The box is straightforward and has the usual packaging. Upon checking the box, you will see on the sides the features that they are boasting: the 30 hours of total playback, 10mm dynamic bass driver, AI ENC noise cancellation for calls, 10 minute-charge having already 3 hours of playback, 88ms super low latency, and instant connection. We will check of these features to see if they are accurate.
Inside the box, you will get a standard set. You will find the realme Buds Q2s, user guide, warranty guide, 2 sets of extra earbuds (small and large) in addition to the medium earbuds that are already mounted, and the charging cables.
The available colors of realme Buds Q2s are night black, paper white, and paper green. And in this review, we have the night black variant.
The Features and Design
The realme Buds Q2s has a transparent top cover that clearly shows the buds inside, while its bottom part has a matte finish with a light indicator placed on the front. The Type-C USB port used for charging the case is located at the back.
We think it brings a cheap vibe the way the charging case was constructed. I didn’t like how the transparent top went due to its material being made of clear plastic. Also, the bottom part with a matte finish seems easy to get scratched.
The earbuds, on the other hand, have a circle glass-like surface with blue coating on it that serves as the touch control in using the earbuds. It has a small profile and is also lightweight. The earbuds feature an IPX4 rating, meaning, it has a protection against splashing water. Therefore, it is the perfect earbud if you will be doing such physical activities or exercise while listening to your favorite music.
The realme Buds Q2s also uses a Bluetooth 5.2 chip that can transmit up to 10 meters of distance and enables a fast and stable connection. It supports AAC codec, which means there is better audio listening compared to SBC.
realme also advertises it has an 88ms super low latency connectivity that is decent enough for playing casual games or MOBA games. After several tests, we found their claims acceptable even without switching to game mode on the realme Link app. Switching to game mode can actually make much lower latency under 50ms.
The Audio Quality and Battery Life
As per its listening presets when connected, they are already set with bright sound effects settings. You can also change the equalizer setting by using the realme Link app. You can choose different kinds of tuning: Bass Boost+, Balanced and Bright in the app.
Listening using the bright mode will give you somehow decent mids with empowered bass. If you plan to change it to other kinds of tuning, we suggest to not change it anymore. The balanced tuning is muddy and the bass boost+ is really what the name says it, as making the sounds heavily towards only to bass and nothing else. Whatever the tuning you wish to choose, the emphasis of the sounds you will be getting is that of empowered bass.
We used tried using the realme Buds Q2s for gaming and we noticed some delay even if we were on gaming mode. Despite the delay, the Buds Q2 are acceptable for playing with MOBA games or casual games. However, we recommend sticking o wired earphones for playing FPS games or rhythm games.
Now, moving on for its battery life, realme advertises that you can use it for 7 hours per charge for a total of 30 hours battery life including the case. But in our actual trial with its earbuds on 50% volume our tests resulted to 5 to 6 hours per charge. It can last for around 5 to 7 days with an average use of 3 to 4 hours per day with its charging case.
Charging the buds, realme advertises that it can flash charge for 10 minutes giving 3 hours of music playback. In our experience, we think this is almost accurate.
The realme Buds Q2s Verdict
Will you consider getting the realme Buds Q2s? We can say it is an average pair of truly wireless earbuds. The fit on our ears is comfortable and we also liked that they added feedback sounds upon using the touch control.
We were satisfied with the battery life it offers and the sounds produced were also decent for casual and basshead listeners. For audiophiles or balanced listeners, they might want to look for other options to consider buying. These buds are also decent with their price point but based on the market right now, the realme Buds Q2 is worth a catch if you can snipe it on sale. If you are lucky, you can grab these Buds for only PHP 990 for its sale price.
The Realme Buds Q2s can be purchased on Shopee for a price of PHP 1,490.
