Earlier this year, the smartphone world witnessed a groundbreaking release from vivo, centered around one of the most coveted aspects of a smartphone: its camera. Their innovation took the form of an ingenious pairing of rear cameras with what they call an “Aura Light” – a ring light that promises to bring a studio-like level of picture quality to your pocket.
Now, as vivo prepares to unveil its latest iteration, the vivo V29 5G, it comes bearing a significant upgrade in the form of an enhanced Aura Light system. Before we delve into the exciting world of the new vivo V29 5G, let’s embark on the journey of unboxing this device and sharing our initial impressions. The First Impressions
The vivo V29 5G boasts a subtly altered design. The rear panel now features a sandblasted finish, departing from the glass-like panel of its predecessor, the vivo V27 5G. Our review unit comes in Magic Maroon, which still exhibits a color-changing effect when exposed to sunlight, transforming into a captivating darker and glittery hue. There’s also a new color option: Starry Purple, which I personally find more attractive.
It received durability improvement as it has now an IP rating. It is IP54 dust and water-resistant which can handle light water splashes, making it suitable for typical daily use but not for heavy exposure to water or submersion.
They’ve also made changes to the rear camera setup. The Aura Light is now located at the bottom, and it’s noticeably larger. The camera configuration on the vivo V29 5G is mostly the same, except for one key change: they’ve replaced the macro camera with a depth camera. To sum it up, the rear camera setup includes a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera remains at 50 megapixels.
Here are some quick sample shots we took with the vivo V29. You can expect a more detailed analysis in our full review, which will be published on September 25.
The vivo V29 5G retains its 6.78-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display, similar to its predecessor. The notable upgrade is the increased screen resolution, now at 2800 x 1260 pixels, up from the previous 2400 x 1080 pixels. Additionally, it’s HDR10+ certified, ensuring excellent video display quality with high dynamic range.
In terms of internal specifications, it’s equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chip, released in May 2021. It pairs with 12GB of RAM and offers two storage options: 256GB or 512GB.
The battery capacity remains at 4600 mAh, but there’s an improvement in charging speed with 80W FlashCharge, up from the previous 66W on the vivo V27 5G.
