The Design

Wiko T50 Back
Wiko T50 Back

The Wiko T50 design has a classic design. The back of the phone has its monotone color palette in glossy plastic with the Wiko logo at the center. Since it is made of plastic, it has a tendency to become a fingerprint magnet. Currently, we have the Midnight Black for this review. Other color variants available are Lively Pink and Aqua Green.

As for the buttons and ports, we have a volume rocker and a power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner on the right side. On the bottom part, you will find the SIM tray slot that supports two nano SIM cards. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a MicroSD card slot to expand your storage. Also found in that area are the microphone hole, a USB Type-C Port, and a speaker grill. The headphone jack is located on the upper part of the T50.

The Sound and Display

Wiko T50

Wiko T50 has a 6.6-inches display size and uses an IPS LCD with a 1080×2400 pixels resolution that is great for browsing social media feeds or watching your favorite content. Regarding its gaming aspect, this Wiko T50 only a 60Hz screen refresh rate compared to other brands in the mid-range smartphone market jumping in the 90Hz bandwagon.

There is a punch-hole on top of the display where the black border of the camera is quite big, despite its razor-thin screen edge and its decent small chin which Wiko says it comes with a 94.58% screen-to-body ratio. You will really enjoy watching contents with these thin bezels.

It uses only a down-firing speaker which is loud and clear but with a heavy bass.

The Performance

The Wiko T50 is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G85 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Let us check the benchmark scores of the Wiko T50:

Using the Wiko T50 is smooth and fast. It doesn’t have any bloatware on it, except for the google apps that were pre-installed. It comes with Android 11 OS (a year-old android version) and a 3-month-old android security update. Android 11 may already be a year-old, but at least it’s a stock android OS. Therefore, if you are looking for a stock experience similar to the Google Pixel phone, then the Wiko T50 is your best bet.

As for its gaming performance, you can easily play low-demanding games like Mobile Legends on high graphics with high refresh settings. However, while playing high-demanding games like Genshin Impact, expect that you have to play on the lowest setting because of possible occurrence of fps drops most especially when the screen has too many running interactions. We also tried stress-testing to determine how long it will stay at its highest clock speed before it will downclock. We got almost 6 mins before it downclocks to 1.8Ghz from its 2.0Ghz.

The biometrics and security of the Wiko T50 uses two types: one is the fingerprint sensor and the other one is the face unlock. The fingerprint sensor is not that snappy compared to other phones within its price range adding to its face unlock that is decent and fine.

The Camera

The camera configuration of the Wiko T50 is a triple rear camera setup having a 64MP main shooter, 8MP wide angle, and 2MP macro camera. With regards to its selfie camera, it has a 16MP camera.

What I like about this is that it does not add too much processing to the pictures it takes. You can actually digitally zoom its main shooter up to 5x. However, its camera menu features and options are limited compared to other phones in the market. It only has panorama, video, photo, bokeh, and beauty.

Shooting in the daylight with the rear camera produces decent pictures but aren’t that crisp enough. Shooting in low light places is acceptable but they aren’t that sharp and sometimes images turned out grainy.

Using the other two rear cameras: the wide-angle shots are dull compared to its main camera shots. Meanwhile, the images that are captured by the macro camera have a downgraded quality. In relation to its selfie camera, it is sufficient enough for its purpose and takes acceptable selfie pictures.

Now, moving to its video capability, the rear camera can shoot 1080p and 720p @ 30 fps and the selfie camera can also shoot 1080p and 720p @ 30 fps.

The Battery

The Wiko T50 has a 4000mAh battery which is smaller compared to other phones in the same price bracket. Typically, phones in this price range have 4,500mAh to 5,000mAh battery capacities. Why Wiko chose to have a smaller battery capacity, we’ll have to ask them.

We tested it out using PCMark 3.0 battery life test and we got a 10 hr 52 min result. For real-world usage of this phone, it lasted up to almost 8 hours with general use such as listening to music, browsing the web using mobile data, and some short sessions of gaming.

Charging this phone has a speedy 40W charging capability that includes a 40W charging brick. It brings the phone from 0% to 54% for 30 mins and almost 1 hour and 15 mins from 0% to 100%.

Wiko T50 Verdict

The Wiko T50 is priced at PHP 11,499, which seems expensive for its phone range compared to the others that use a Mediatek Helio G85 processor. The display is only 60Hz in comparison to the others that have 90Hz or 120Hz displays.  It doesn’t have any expandable MicroSD storage.

In relation to its battery, it also uses a 4,000mAh battery capacity compared to the 5,000mAh being used by some other smartphones. In spite of this, they made this phone charge for 40W. One good thing about this is that, the android experience of this phone is stock and its display has razor-thin sides and decent color accuracy making this phone good for content consumption.

You can buy the Wiko T50 in Shopee, Lazada, and its first kiosk that they opened in SM City Grand Central.
