Samsung Patents Quad-Curved Screen: Possible New Flagship Leak?

Samsung just got a patent for its Quad-Curved screens. They’re possibly bringing the trend of a display curved from all four sides with no room for buttons and ports back. A shift from their new releases—is this a trip back to memory lane?

July 2019, we’ve received reports that Samsung filed for a Quad-Curved screen patent in China. This March it’s been added to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). What does this mean? Have a look at ConceptCreator and LetsGoDigital‘s renders of the leaked schematics.

The schematics show on the application filed in the WIPO is a screen curved on all four sides. This proposed quad curved display seems well thought out. But it also definitely looks a lot more fragile than the S10 and S20 series. The design we’re expecting however to counter that is a thin metal body raised on each corner. A bit similar to Huawei P40’s design.

If Samsung pushes through for a Quad-Curved Screen we’re presented a few difficulties. In a quad-curved screen design, bezels will most likely stay to protect the screen from a drop. We wouldn’t say it’s a big downgrade, but it is a point to consider.

Aside from that, it proves to be difficult to include buttons and ports in the schematic. The logistics of these all working together is probably a lot more complicated than Samsung’s previous releases.

There hasn’t been any news on which Samsung upcoming unit this will debut in. We’ll make to get back to you once we do.
